For (yesterday's) #agameoffavorites I researched authors from the country I'd like to visit the most, Botswana. Unity Dow's life and bibliography are impressive. She is a women's rights, human rights and education activist, and was the first woman appointed as a judge to the high court of Botswana. I couldn't find any information on her favorite book, but I'm very excited to read her work and learn more about her life.

Thought-provoking. I'm so glad I found this book through #readaroundtheworld (Botswana). The No 1 Ladies Detective series does the light, humorous side, but this is real life, the dark corruption, witchcraft & human rights abuses by government officials. Unity Dow is a high court judge who brings depth to the story but also great warmth & humour. I loved the feisty heroines especially Amantle. Uneven but an easy, engaging style & sense of place.

JenP Sounds really good! 7y
Abailliekaras @JenP it is. I kind of want to go to Botswana now (although that might be kind of weird, given the subject-matter of the book)! 7y
DivineDiana I'm intrigued! Stacked! 7y

"The extent of your stupidity isn't the uppermost concern in my mind right now..." Love Amantle, the feisty heroine of this story!

Starting this one, no idea what to expect. Accompanied by vegetable soup with Persian feta and crispy pancetta. 😋 #booknlunch

Hooked_on_books I read this recently. I found the first few chapters a little uneven but loved it thereafter. 7y

Amantle Bokaa takes a yearlong assignment at a clinic in a remote village of Botswana and makes a chilling find in the storage closet which blows open the case of a girl who's been missing for 5 years. While uneven in places, this is a fascinating look into a country involving sexism, violence and corruption. The author is the first female High Court judge in Botswana. #readaroundtheworld #botswana

Reese_Pearly.Pages I heard about the Bright Continent a few years on the Monocle podcast. It was a good interview with the author. (Still haven't read my copy yet 😩) 7y
rockpools Nice review! I think I'll give this one a go at some point. I found so many great books to read through this month's challenge! 7y

#Bookhaul! I used my Powell's gift card from my birthday (the BF is a smart guy, getting me what I asked for), and my order arrived today. A couple of blame it on Litsy along with some prepping for #readaroundtheworld: Dow is from Botswana and Valdés is Cuban.
