This book was well written but I was disappointed. I expected a smart mystery with an intriguing MC and supernatural elements. Instead I got a half-baked medieval romance where everyone told the MC that the love interest was violently in love wih her. As the first book of the year, it was lacking. Still I liked it enough to continue the series.

This took a left turn about 1/3 in and became a different story than advertised. The concept wasn't bad but it seems something that should've been done at book 5 or 6 not book 2. It also forced relationships to move faster than seemed necessary. I didn't like the ending at all. I didn't know that I'll continue with this series. So much potential but it's like the author decided after she started writing that she wanted something else entirely.

Overall, I liked this better than the first book in the series, but didn't like where this book ended. I am interested to see where the next book (if there is one) goes.

It took me longer than I'd hoped to finish book # 1 (a nap or two may have contributed to this), but now I can start book # 2. My earlier nap will probably make it difficult for me to go to sleep, so I should be able to get a good start on this.

This was my latest ARC from @PenguinRandomCa @PenguinPublishing @penguinrandomhouse @penguinusa It was a fun and quick read that helped take my mind off of pain issues.

If you are an Outlander fan get a copy. It will help fill the void until the next book and TV series come out.

The pine cone in the photo is rather tall. But it broke during one of my brother's moves.
