⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed this more or less if I'd read it in the correct chronological order. This one takes place prior to the last two novels, and if I'd not read those, I would not have had the aha moment of realizing who these characters end up being later on. It was a good, if a bit scary, little story.

Not really what I was expecting, but this book‘s perspective captures the pioneering spirit that the new emigres through the gate have. There might be a bit too much “ here it‘s like this, there it‘s like that” between the new world and Earth, but by the end the evolutionary possibility the main character has is as much physical as, more importantly, psychological. This steps out of the Expanse universe, but a good read for the fan.

Eeeeeeek, this was a good one, even if it it's left pretty open-ended (be warned). This seems, like The Churn, one of *The Important Novellas* of The Expanse series - don't miss it if you're a fan! Elements are introduced that are surely going to be in future novels - and I AM SO HERE FOR IT!!!

Chessa Also, this is the second book I've read this year featuring dogs on an alien planet - new SF trope? I LOVE IT. 7y
