A group of friends start a secret society in this out-of-control thriller from the author of The Telling and The Creeping that examines the all-consuming love of lifelong friendshipand what someone is capable of when theyre afraid of losing it. Izzie loves nothing more than her three best friends, Viv, Graham, and Harry, and the bond the four of them share. And shes terrified of their friendship falling apart next year when they go off to college. To bind them together, she decides to create that will belong only to them, a special thing that theyll always share between the four of them. And so they dream up the Order of IV, a secret society devoted to mischief that rights wrongs and pays back debts. At first, it works like a charmbut when the Order of IVs escapades get recognition beyond their wildest expectations, other people start wanting in. And soon, what started as a game of friendship is spiraling into something dangerous and beyond their controland before its over, theyll pay the ultimate sacrifice.

Not my favourite by this author (that would be THE CREEPING), but an intriguing story of friendship, secrets, and a murder. 3 🌟/ 5

Maybe not an ideal choice for my first day of chemotherapy! First we were IV is in places a compelling story of the intensity of teenage friendship, collusion, shared histories & justice and at times an incredibly frustrating teen love story with a lot of blood and damage thrown in on top Izzie the MC says towards the end “ treated us as idiot kids and then as evil masterminds. The reality lay somewhere in the middle.” This comparison seems fair!

Itchyfeetreader Side note I have the trusted kindle with and a pass on the book buying ban for treatment duration - any recommendations for something softer but still a great story for tomorrow? 6y
Kaye Thinking of you. Stay strong. You can do it. 💪🏼. (edited) 6y
CarolynM Hope you find some good reads to help you through. If you like crime novels at the quirky end of the spectrum, try Andrea Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano series starting with 6y

Kaye I see on your tbr you have Little Big Man . I‘d highly recommend that. It‘s Western but really good. It‘s told from the viewpoint of an old geezer who‘s funny and can spin a good yarn. There are lots of characters and terrific story that‘ll take your mind away a bit. 6y
Itchyfeetreader @CarolynM @Kaye thank you for your messages and hints. Today has been an Anne of green gables re-read day but I‘m downloading your recs now ... 6y
Kaye How are you feeling today ? 6y
Itchyfeetreader @Kaye not too bad thanks a bit tired and a bit low on oxygen levels but they are looking after me really well and have me really comfortable 6y
Kaye That‘s good. Are you still in hospital then ? I wasn‘t sure if you‘d just come in for chemo , then get to leave in a few hours or not. (edited) 6y
Itchyfeetreader No they have me on a newish regimen so I will be in hospital four days of every three weeks for the next four to six months. It‘s a bit of a pain bing away from home but also quite comforting being here where the nurses are on hand to answer any questions and monitor for side effects etc. Certainly for my first time anyway. 6y
CarolynM Anne of Green Gables sounds like the perfect companion to me. Glad to hear you're comfortable, hope the 4 days don't drag too much. 💐 6y
DivaDiane I‘m very sorry to hear you are ill. 4 days of 3 weeks, that‘s a lot! Take care, Anne will be the perfect companion. 6y
Godmotherx5 You have a great outlook. I hope reading brings you comfort. A fun read that‘s easy to pick up & put down is Texts from Jane Eyre. 🤗📚 6y

“I sketched the four of us. Together... My best friends. The loves of my life. Strangers. Reeling. Ferocious... First we were four. Now we are three.”

It starts with four friends, a secret society, and a desire to make memories to last beyond their final year together. Quickly, though, it‘s out of their control, vying for justice in their small town, and not one of them could have predicted how it all would end.

“What started as a secret rebellion, ended as justice. Revenge. Death. Rebellion.” - blurb from First We Were IV by Alexandra Sirrowy

My review for First We Were IV is now up on my blog! Link in bio :-) this was unfortunately a DNF for me, which is a shame because it was a highly anticipated read. I struggled to really connect with the characters and I felt that the plot was really too slow to keep my interest.

This audio book did absolutely nothing for me. Not only was the story dull but the woman reading it was not enjoyable to listen too. It got to the point that I was inky finishing it because I was waiting for my other audio book to become available. Full review to come on brutalbookworm.blogspot.com

I really enjoyed (and was creeped out) by the first half of this book, but the second half just felt too long and the plot felt more crowded than complex and there were things thrown in that just felt extra to me. Over all I think if you're into cult culture, secret societies, and need a summer thriller, this might be your thing.
