If you are a LIW fan, this will be enjoyable! I learned so much about the places the Ingalls and Wilders lived, and how/why they stopped at those particular spots.

#2018Book75
For me, this book was kind of boring and dragged on forever. However, that is the opinion of someone who doesn't enjoy being outside and has no interest in farming/gardening. People who like that stuff or want to start growing their own food will probably enjoy reading it. Also, I've always liked the Little House tv show, but never really got into the books. So if you liked the books, you'll probably get more out of this than I did.

Thanks to Timber Press and #NetGalley for this book. McDowell examines Laura Ingalls Wilder‘s life through the flora and fauna found in the Little House books. A different approach, and one I never thought of, but it works. I want to re-read the Little House books just to experience the landscape, something I certainly didn‘t think about my first time reading these books. Great book for Wilder fans. More on GR.

My current #25infive total. 🙄

Andrew65 A good total coming along 👏 6y

#TBRtemptation post 1! Recently released. 150 years after Wilder's birthday, this historical account is rich with illustrations and historical photographs. McDowell shows the plant, animal, and topographical landscape Wilder's stories are infused with. From Wisconsin to the Dakotas to Missouri. Immersive in scope. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

@ocdIrene asked about the pictures in this book. It seems to be a combination of photographs and illustrations (some of which come from the Little House books), with not a lot of writing in between.

DogMomIrene OMG! I love it! What a fantastic companion book to her series. As a kid sometimes I had trouble visualizing farm life, but I can't even imagine nowadays. Thanks for posting this shot! 7y

The first blizzard came in October. The severity and length of the winter is mind boggling. It is amazing that more people didn't die.

I had never thought about this before. How much did Ma support Pa's urge to move west?

I want to do this. I will have to see if wintergreen can be grown in a warm climate.

Lynnsoprano I haven't tried wintergreen, but most mints will grow in warm climates. I even kept a chocolate mint going through a South Florida summer. This sounds like something fun to try. 7y
