Growing up the outcast in an infamous family of psychics, Nate Black never learned how to control his empath abilities. Then after five years without contact, his estranged twin turns up dead in New York City. The claim of suicide doesn't ring true, especially when a mysterious vision tells Nate it was murder. Now his long-hated gift is his only tool to investigate.Hitching from his tiny Texas town, Nate is picked up by Trent, a gorgeous engineer who thrives on sarcasm and skepticism. The heat that sparks between them is instant and intense, and Nate ends up trusting Trent with his secrets--something he's never done before. But once they arrive in the city, the secrets multiply when Nate discovers an underground supernatural community, more missing psychics, and frightening information about his own talent.Nate is left questioning his connection with Trent. Are their feelings real, or are they being propelled by abilities Nate didn't realize he had? His fear of his power grows, but Nate must overcome it to find his brother's killer and trust himself with Trent's heart.

Paranormal MM romantic suspense. 1st of trilogy. I really liked Nate as the narrator & relationship between him & Trent was low drama. The conflict was mostly external which I liked. Nate‘s back story contains some icky things but they are off screen so to speak & aren‘t graphically elaborated on. There was a satisfying conclusion to the story arc of this book but enough left open to continue into the next couple‘s book. #romantsy ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Christy2318 I‘m aware of the controversy re this author & spent way too much time down the rabbit hole of he said she said trying to sort it out. I decided to read the books I could get digitally before publisher had chance to pull them. Whatever the full truth of that crazy story is, it‘s a shame because the person writing the books can really tell a story. (edited) 6y

Since I was lucky enough to snatch myself an earc of @santionhassell ‘s OVERSIGHT (yay), the second installment in the THE COMMUNITY series, which will be out June 26th, I decided to finally read INSIGHT first (before reading all the other books on my HUGE TBR) I swear I will forever be in love with Santino Hassells writing. I‘m almost halfway through INSIGHT, although I only started last night and I am enjoying this so much 💖 #santinohassell

First, what I liked: pretty much everything. Nate was a fab narrator and I thought him and Trent worked so well as a couple. I ESPECIALLY liked that they didn't pretend they didn't like each other. There was A+ communication going on! I also liked the world of this hidden community of psychics and how real world differences play out within it. Race, class, sexuality are at play, even with people who can read each others minds or see the future.

MeganB There were a few things I wish had gotten some more attention, mainly what exactly is the extent of Nate's abilities. I wish we'd learned a little more about them as well as one part when he uses his abilities to influence someone's actions. That felt like it wasn't really addressed in a satisfactory way. But other than that one small thing, I thought this was a really great opening to a series I am definitely looking forward to continuing. 7y

What do you get when you combine a paranormal, a road trip novel, and a romantic suspense? Something like this book if you also throw in a big cast of well differentiated characters introduced quickly in the second half, a truly messed up background for the main character, and New York City. This may sound like a recipe for a hot mess, but Hassell pulls it off. 👇🏼
