The Forgetting Tree
The Forgetting Tree: A Novel | Tatjana Soli
7 posts | 3 read | 7 to read
A New York Times Notable Book! From Tatjana Soli, The New York Times bestselling author of The Lotus Eaters, comes a breathtaking novel of a California ranching family, its complicated matriarch, and the enigmatic caretaker who may destroy them When Claire Nagy marries Forster Baumsarg, the only son of prominent California citrus ranchers, she knows she's consenting to a life of hard work, long days, and worry-fraught nights. But her love for Forster is so strong, she turns away from her literary education and embraces the life of the ranch, succumbing to its intoxicating rhythms and bounty until her love of the land becomes a part of her. Not even the tragic, senseless death of her son Joshua at kidnappers' hands, her alienation from her two daughters, or the dissolution of her once-devoted marriage can pull her from the ranch she's devoted her life to preserving. But despite having survived the most terrible of tragedies, Claire is about to face her greatest struggle: an illness that threatens not only to rip her from her land but take her very life. And she's chosen a caregiver, the inscrutable, Caribbean-born Minna, who may just be the darkest force of all. Haunting, tough, triumphant, and profound, The Forgetting Tree explores the intimate ties we have to one another, the deepest fears we keep to ourselves, and the calling of the land that ties every one of us together.

Pickpick

#audiowalk in the park to see the little goslings underneath my own healing trees.
This book took a while to get into but the intro of Minna intrigued me; after that, I was hooked by, basically, the terribleness of everything and everyone 😂 If you like family drama, stories of traumatized people and those who traumatize them, sadness, and ultimately how we heal, this is for you.

#audiowalk friends! Mira los patitos!
On this audiowalk I was also waved down by a a gaggle of children and was promptly introduced to "the gas mask man" aka the kid in the gas mask. For all who have read it, I just finished NOS4A2 so maybe you can appreciate this very creepy scene!????

Started this yesterday for a lovely, sunny #audiowalk
I'm switching up my workout routine this month and going for walks because I really need to chill the hell out and relax my muscles which my high impact routine was not helping with- my lower back/glutes are tight and full of knots. Ugh.
Better tho than some rando pharmacist trying to tell me I might have kidney problems..😐😠 ok, back to chillin 😂

#TBRtemptation post 4! This story begins with the tragedy: a family that owns a 580-acre California citrus ranch violently loses a son & brother. Daughters Gwen & Lucy attempt to persuade their parents, Claire & Forster, to sell the land after Josh's death. Minna, a Caribbean woman, is brought in to care for Claire. And Minna brings with her the darkest kind of voodoo practice. Tense & terrifying according to reviewers. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
