Patricia Harper is dead, killed by a hot-wired espresso machine, in Uncommon Grounds, her very own gourmet coffee store! Maggy Thorsen wants to know who killed one of her partners. Maggy needs the store to succeed. Starting over after her divorce, she's quit her PR job to open the coffee store. And if things aren't already tough enough, she begins to suspect one of her friends is responsible for Patricia's murder. Maggy joins forces with Sarah Kingstown, Patricia's closest friend, to investigate her killing. Together, they uncover unsavory small-town politics, bribes, kickbacks, and rampant infidelity. Before she's through, Maggy's sense of right and wrong will be shaken to its foundations. For once in her life, she is forced to draw her own line in the sand, and be prepared to defend it.Sandra Balzo currently resides in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

This was just ok- the writing felt very much like you expect from an indie book. (And trust me I HATE saying that bc my top 5 has at least 2 indie authors in it.) Being written in 2004/5 didn‘t age well with some the tech and “thoughts” about coffee. The mystery also seemed too far fetched- like the author sees crime on the news, not understanding how it functions.

Overall, this wasn‘t my favorite cozy but the culprit did surprise the heck out of me!!

This kind of, sort of, reminded me of The Hallmark Channel. The twist was very unexpected- I did appreciate that. Infidelity bothers me and there was a lot of it as part of the storyline. But it reads quickly. 2-2.5 stars for me. Will be sending this out in a few days.

BookwormAHN The infidelity part was the nuttiest. 4y

@BookwormAHN my #cbbc package arrived! Thank you! I am so excited you sent cute highlighters!!! My daughter keeps teasing me with hers but mine are so cute!!! One of my goals for 2020 is to annotate more often and use all my adorable stickies. 🧡🧡🧡

Pickpick

I enjoyed this cozy, the murder mystery was more complex than in a lot of others. Maggy, who is trying to solve the murder of her friend and business partner, can be a tad irritating but it is a good quick read ☕

rockpools That confused me! I was sure I‘d read this, but didn‘t recognise the plot - looks like I was thinking of 👇. Maybe I‘ll give this one a go as well. 4y

This book has been sitting in the same spot on the shelf area behind my usual table at the coffee shop for a week now so I'm thinking that maybe it needs to come home & join my #TBR stack. Or maybe this coffee shop-set cozy mystery is a message I've been spending too much time here & eating too much of #thespicygarlicavocadotoast-which was particularly spot on today w/a perfect avocado & just the right amount of spicy garlic aioli & celery salt.💚

Zelma Perfection! 💕💕 7y
LauraBrook Not possible to visit coffee shops too often or have too much avocado toast. Bring it home! Plus, I'm pretty sure this series is set in my home town of Milwaukee, and there aren't a lot of books set here! And it's free! (Should I keep going? I'm good at justifying book acquisitions! 😊) 7y
DebinHawaii @Zelma It was! 😀👍 @LauraBrook I like your style! 😆 It did end up coming home with me! 👍📚 7y
