One of the few benefits to college football season is that our downtown is super quiet. And that's with Ironman in town, too. My husband and I are enjoying the relative peace with books and coffee outside at one of our favorite coffee shops.

"For the big idea--could be religion, could be politics, could be the race you belong to, or your clan, or philosophy, or economics, or your sex or just how many bleeding Guineans you got stashed in the counting house. Doesn't matter, because the big idea is always the same--wouldn't it be good if only everyone was the same as me--if only everyone else thought and acted and worshipped and looked like me, everything would become paradise on earth.

If Terry Pratchett and Phillip Pullman had a love child, it would be this book.
Near-earth steampunk victoriana, and though at times the descriptions are a little vague and I was left floundering wondering what on earth the writer was trying to convey to me, on the whole this was a good, ripping adventure yarn. Worth a look and persist through the tangled parts.
