An SCU team investigates a string of accidents, only to uncover a deadly and deliberate monster in the latest novel from "New York Times" bestselling author Kay Hooper. In Clarity, North Carolina, the residents have fallen victim to an unfortunate series of events. Seemingly random accidents have taken the lives of several citizens in the small mountain town. But these deadly coincidences are anything but. Something is on the hunt in Clarity, and the only clue as to what is a cryptic note given to the victims 24 hours before they meet their ends: Wait for dark. Sheriff Mal Gordon knows how to handle his town, but he has no idea how to handle this. Hollis Templeton and her team from the Special Crimes Unit, including her partner and lover, telepath Reese DeMarco, are called in to investigate. But while the SCU has prepared them for the unknown, the incredible evil stalking Clarity shakes the team to its core when one of their own is targeted. Now Hollis, the cat with nine lives finds herself facing death again. And this time, not even her partner can protect her..."

Mystery is one genre of books I‘ve always struggled with. I love a good detective/crime drama on Netflix, but I have a harder time finding books that don‘t feel predictable and get boring quickly. I haven‘t started this book yet, but it will be my next attempt. I‘m in desperate need of a book I can‘t put down! What other mystery authors can you all suggest?

Ruthiella I am that way about romance and some hard sci-fi: I don‘t like it generally in books but enjoy it on the screen. I recommend the Sue Grafton Alphabet mysteries to try. They are pretty snappy. 2y

Well, I slipped on ice this morning and am so sore. Now that I'm home, I'm gonna crawl into bed and start one of these two books I got today. Can winter please go away now?!?

Itchyfeetreader Feel better and keep it raised ! 6y
jenmoody23 Oh no! Glad it wasn‘t worse and hope you feel better soon! 6y
tracey38 @Itchyfeetreader and @jenmoody23 thanks! I am actually home sick with a bad cold (I think) today and am still sore so gonna take it easy and read. Bruised right hip, knee, and ankle. But it could have been worse, so I'm grateful it wasn't. 6y

My second book off my #AprilTBR list is done.

I enjoyed this book as I do all of her Bishop books. They follow a formula and rarely stray. I'm ok with that; it's kind of comforting in a way. It's not great fiction but I liked it.

I know I said I needed something light after The Girl With All The Gifts. And actually, this is, even though chapter one has a gory death in it.
I love Bishop and all his physics. It is almost always fairly predictable, with a little romance to add to the supernatural mysteries. And I adore Hollis! This should be a quick read.

BibliophileMomma Love the Bishop series. I need to read this one. 👍🏼 7y

Mehso-so

Book 20. I started this series years ago and have kept up and diligently bought every book as they've come out. The first two trilogies are amazing, so well written. Lately though it feels like she's kind of phoning it in (I feel just terrible writing that) the characters and the storylines just have no flesh to them anymore. Sad face.

Booknerd2 Kind of like she's rushing to get the book over🤔 7y

Another good book in the series. It's a quick read. A little mystery, supernatural, romance, and action. With old friends and new. It could have been a little longer. Seemed like she wrapped it up too quick without a lot of explanation how they figured out the killer. But good overall. 😃

GypsyKat This has nothing to do with the book, but I used to have a friend named Melissa Mueller. I lost touch with her several years ago. I don't suppose you've ever lived in Syracuse NY, have you? 7y
Booknerd2 I'm sorry, no. Davenport, Iowa all my life. That would have been a great story. Two friends reconnecting on Litsy! 😃Hope you find her someday. 7y
