New episode just posted! We select a November #botm, discuss spy stories and essay collections, Peter lets us know one of his deepest fears, and I do a two-second Sean Connery impression. It's very much worth your while if I do say so myself. Enjoy!

This volume contains over 1300 pages of essays. I am going to try to read a couple of them a week. I have read 1984 and Animal Farm, and the time has come to read more of Orwell's nonfiction.

Pickpick

"A nationalist is one who thinks always in terms of competitive prestige. ... His thoughts always turn on victories, defeats, triumphs and humiliations. ... Nationalism is power-hunger tempered by self-deception. Every nationalist is capable of the most flagrant dishonesty, but he is also - since he is conscious of serving something bigger than himself - unshakeably certain of being in the right."
