3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
A son seeking revenge for his father's rejection... A hero of the people has his true motives brought to light... A killer facing the consequences of his actions... This is DARKNESS VISIBLE. Stu Loudon brings you an anthology of dark speculative fiction, examining the dark, the light and the shadows between. Included is a preview of Stu Loudon's WHAT LIES BENEATH series; two stories featuring characters from his soon-to-be-published novel PONTIUS. DARKNESS VISIBLE includes a bonus section showcasing the work of up-and-coming American author Roxanne Evans. Author testimonials: "If you're thirsty for something original, dark, and shaken not stirred with a twist, then Thirst will definitely satisfy." Pete Turner, Author of "Whisper A Scream" and " Whisper From The Woods." "Stu Loudon has a way with words, it's almost like poetry. I felt every word I read, I was left looking at life in a totally different way long after turning that last page." Aimie Jennison, Author, "Mount Roxby" series. Stu Loudon is an author based in Brisbane, Australia.

I've been seeing folks asking what exactly #speculativefiction is and what it entails. I'm not a fan of the term, it's rather nebulous and vague...hence ongoing debates (even among my colleagues) about the category and confused people. In any case, I thought I'd share with you what I think is the article that I've come across with the best explanation: http://annieneugebauer.com/2014/03/24/what-is-speculative-fiction/ . Check out the comments too

bentchbites I‘m v confused with the term as well. Thanks for this link. Saving this for reading later. :) 6y
Avanders That diagram is exactly how I describe it!! Much less concisely or eloquently though..... 😁😁 it is a *broad* category.... ☺️ 6y
vivastory It is a strange, but I find it to be a useful term. Speculative fiction makes me think of writers such as Jeff Vandermeer, China Mieville, Brian Evenson, Danielewski, Thomas Ligotti. A lot of the authors included in the following anthology could be termed speculative 6y

vivastory I think it's also a useful term insofar as it seems like people are more likely to read a novel that's been termed speculative fiction rather than sci-fi. Which is obviously unfortunate, but if it works... 6y
tournevis Thank you for this. It will be useful for my course! 6y
Sha0102 Love the article thanks 6y
lucylovestoread Really interesting, thanks for the link! 6y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Interesting read. I had been wondering about that exact topic recently. Thanks for sharing. 6y

I feel like my #litsyhandle is one of the obvious ones. The vast majority of my favorite fiction lies in the realm of speculative fiction: fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian/utopian, apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic, steam/diesel/cyber/bio-punk, superhero, mythological, alternate history, horror/gothic... I love it all.

Oh, and I'm female. 😅

@Chelleo

Chelleo 🤪🤣😂 The female part had me wondering 6y
SpeculativeFemale @Chelleo Yeah, SpeculativeFictionLove or SpeculativeFictionGirl or something along those lines was just too much for me, so I just switched fiction to female 🙃😅 6y
RealBooks4ever When I first saw your Litsy name I thought it was quite clever! 👍 6y

These short stories grab you, twist your mind, and leave you wanting more of the same. A cracking good anthology from a new author, but one to watch out for.
