Trapped between the hormone-driven world of her friends and the discontent of her dysfunctional family, fourteen-year-old Georgia is only completely at ease when she's dancing. When she is accepted into Canada's preeminent ballet school, Georgia thinks it is the perfect escape. Artistic Director Roderick Allen singles her out as a star, subjecting her to increasingly intensive training, and Georgia obsesses about becoming the perfect, disciplined student. But as she spends more and more time with Roderick, it's not so clear exactly what their relationship means. Is he her teacher and mentor, or is there something more? These blurred lines will threaten both Roderick's future at the academy and Georgia's ambitions as a ballerina.

This book made me uncomfortable. And not the good kind of uncomfortable that makes you think. This book is just way too modern-Lolita/pro eating disorder/ verging on sexual abuse of a minor. It's not that any of these things would be bad elements of a story line, it's just the way that the author presents them is beyond uncomfortable.

I'm taking a quick break from my #chunkster and diving into this book that was lent to me by my sister. It promises to delve into the sometimes sordid world of child ballerinas and their mentors. I'm intrigued. 👯

Let's face it, there is no proper etiquette when it comes to reading. 😋 The only drawback? #FatiguedArms!

Interesting look into the life of ballet during the early teenage years.

Something is visually cool about the cover arts .. but .. I'd like to see some reviews of this book before reading, if so. 🤔 It could be something of an underage Black Swan type of story, keeping mindful for positive reads on the dance story interest. This does count in for Canadian books and settings. 🍁

LeahBergen I liked it! You should give it a read if you are interested in dance. 🙂 7y
Dan_SpiderCrafts @LeahBergen It sounds interesting on the work and passion, as fascinating in the life of ballerinas. Dance is cool to read about and try out; generally with a spiritual book for me ☺️ 7y
