#postmodern gothic. JCO plays around with the conventions of genre in a lovely way, commenting unobtrusively on the status of women. The best bit is the hapless romantic detective Xavier Kilgarvon, who takes literary detectives as his model. Having just discovered some mutilated lambs he is stunned to find that unlike his favorite characters he is horrified and disgusted by the slaughter, unable to remain objective. Really enjoying the #audiobook

The Virgin in the Rose Bower.

Would be difficult to get this in the UK as I would probably have to order copies from the US so I was delighted to find the #audiobook on #Scribd

Very good so far, a #gothic #historical #murdermystery with weird characters and a creepy house!
