Charlie Garrett is tired of being used and abused by her coworkers at the high end restaurant in NYC and allows her ex to convince her to move to Seattle to work at his restaurant. The perks are amazing and she is desperate enough to not dig deeper. Come to find out, she is set to be his costar on a new reality show set in his restaurant. When Charlie meets and falls for Kai, everything gets even more complicated.

so-so

I really wanted to love this one, but it was the high end of so-so for me. I loved the details of life as a high-level pastry chef, but the book started with details about NYC that didn't ring true to me so started me on the wrong foot. I also wasn't completely satisfied with the ending.

I found this quote the other day, not knowing how fitting of an analogy it would be for the book I was about to read. No, there was no CEO, or Susan, but there was a baker! This is the story of a thirty something chef who dreams of calling the shots, but ultimately bites off more than she can chew, pun intended. In a nutshell, Sugar is a light confection along the lines of the ones created in the book. Enjoyable enough, but low on substance.

I happen to have a thriving cooking reality show addiction, so this was right in my wheelhouse. A fantastic pastry chef goes to a new restaurant only to discover that her ex (the owner) is in a reality show. Her own romance takes a back seat to work but I found the pastry chef details fascinating (and intoxicating—she makes you long for dessert). #romantsy
