Pickpick

Snippy snappy dialogue and ridiculous circumstances. The author has Northern Irish mannerisms completely sussed (figured out).

Ye'll be scundered if ye don't read it! (You can ask me for a translation 😄).

#NorthernIreland

The pic has nothing to do with the book. Cat paralysis again.

Laura317 My great grandmother said that! I didn't realize it was Irish all this time. How fun! 7y
Libby1 Which term, @Laura317? Scundered or sussed? 😀 7y
Laura317 Scundered. Not sure where she learned it from, but she used it almost as tuckered out. As in "I am completely scundered." I don't think her version means the same as the way you used it. I had to look it up. 7y

Libby1 It's a bit of a flexible term, I find, @Laura317 . Glad my post could remind you of your grandmother. 💕 7y

Ersatz coffee!!! And I've just recently read about Lemony Snicket's Ersatz Elevator. I'm on page 7 of this book and I'm already happy.

"I had a cappuccino once in Belfast."

The Guardian calls this book "a perfect antidote for melancholy." After reading The Devil in the Marshalsea and looking at all the spooky reads being posted recently I'm ready for some lighthearted fun!

And what could be more fun than a book set at a library convention?!? ??❤️#NorthernIreland

charl08 Enjoying his county guides series - will add this to the stack. 8y
Libby1 Excellent, @charl08 ! I'm steadily working through everything he's written. I really enjoy his sense of humour. 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Libby1 I'm a bit melancholic myself lately, and having broccoli for dinner isn't helping much, so I will definitely look into this!! Thanks for the info! 8y

Libby1 Ooh. Broccoli never helps, @JanuarieTimewalker13 . Hope you'll enjoy this series! 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Libby1 Thank you!! I just read the synopsis on amzn and he's a vegetarian, so Inguess it's fitting..I ordered it whilst eating my broccoli from a bookstore in Durham City!! Yay!! My library did not have this!! *Please note I'm an American trying to integrate the word whilst into our lexicon...and my next goal is: cuppa!!! 🙂 8y
Libby1 Excellent goals, @JanuarieTimewalker13 . I'm an American too but have lived in the UK (mostly Northern Ireland) since 2000. I've had to learn a lot of lingo, including weird Northern Irish stuff. 😀 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Libby1 oh thats Northern Ireland, like he says in the book? Do they say cuppa too? 8y
Libby1 Yes, they do, @JanuarieTimewalker13 ! This book also just talked about someone being "up to high dough" (flustered). That's one of my mother-in-law's most frequent sayings. ? 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Libby1 ok, I ordered the book from an English town...I was confused...I really need to explore the U.K.!! So great that you are over there!! 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Libby1 I love it!! I'm going to use that!! Lol...I also love your other post about the ersatz coffee!! You're up late!! 8y
