Dorothea Lange‘s most famous photograph from the Depression, Migrant Mother, is the inspiration for this fictionalized tale of Mary Coin, the migrant mother herself. “Vera” is Dorothea Lange‘s counterpart and this book takes you on a journey with both Mary and Vera from 1920 to 1982, and I just loved it. It‘s very true to Dorothea‘s real background and an interesting what if. Recommended for fans of historical fiction and Dorothea Lange. 5⭐️

The photo entitled Migrant Mother is an iconic part of American history. Silver has taken that image and it's history and crafted them into a multi-generational story. Jumping between timelines and viewpoints this weaves a stark but wonderful fictional story of the people behind one of our most famous images. It's definitely an interesting prompt for writing a new story or rather re-writing an old one. Highly recommended!

Listened to this a second time and still enjoyed it very much. While many other reviewers took issue with the fictional nature of the book, I throughly enjoyed it. Woot, the library bookstore here is awesome! Much bigger than I expected and lots of selection. I kept things reasonable and nabbed two from my TBR and Guernsey for a reread.

This book is #lies because it is a fictional account of the circumstances surrounding this picture. 100% untrue. Also 100% intriguing. #MayBookFlowers
