Los Gatos Black on Halloween
Los Gatos Black on Halloween | Marisa Montes
4 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
Follow los monstruos and los esqueletos to the Halloween party Under October's luna, full and bright, the monsters are throwing a ball in the Haunted Hall. Las brujas come on their broomsticks. Los muertos rise from their coffins to join in the fun. Los esqueletos rattle their bones as they dance through the door. And the scariest creatures of all aren't even there yet! This lively bilingual Halloween poem introduces young readers to a spooky array of Spanish words that will open their ojos to the chilling delights of the season. Los Gatos Black on Halloween is a 2007 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year, the winner of the 2008 Pura Belpre Medal for Illustration and a Pura Belpre Honor Book for Narrative.

5⭐️! Fabulous meter and rhyme, awesome illustrations, plus it‘s educational. Teaches Spanish holiday vocab via immersion in the text.

Los Gatos Black on Halloween by Marisa Montes and illustrated by Yuyi Morales is a Pura Belpre award winning picture book that is great for incorporating culture into a classroom. The festive poetry book introduces children to Spanish words while telling the story of spooky characters who join together. This link will take you to a read aloud of the book which is a great option of non Spanish speaking teachers who want to share with their class.

juliek1 I am feeling genuinely emotional over finding this book through your post. It combines cats and Dia De Los Muertos which are two of my favorite things. Did you know you can play an animated version of the book on YouTube?! I found it just now when I Googled the book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFiv-qn0PIc 6y
