When I listen to audiobooks that are even a little strange, the strangeness is increased with my daily routine as backdrop- cooking, dishes, cleaning. So listening to the grim baritone of the narrator voicing Shields' thoughts about death during these activities was...strange. Equal parts memoir about conversations with his elderly father, quotes from famous people, & medical textbook describing the aging process, it almost works...but not quite.
