Tales from Watership Down (American)
Tales from Watership Down (American) | Richard Adams
2 cassettes / 3 hoursRead by Nigel HaversWatership Down was one of this century's best-loved works of imaginative literature. Now Richard Adams returns, to tell us what happened to the rabbits after their defeat of General Woundwort.Tales From Watership Down begins with some of the great folk stories well known to all rabbits. Then we listen in as Dandelion, the rabbits' master storyteller, relates the thrilling adventures experienced by Al-ahrairah, the mythical rabbit hero, and his stalwart, Rabscuttle, during the long journey home after their terrible encounter with the Black Rabbit of Inlé (as narrated in Watership Down). Finally, in the principal part of the book, we are told eight enchanting stories about the rabbits of the Down-- Hazel, Fiver, Bigwig, and their companions--including the impact on the warren of the obsessive doe Flyairth, and the appointment of Hyzenthlay as a female Chief Rabbit and partner to Hazel. All listners-- the millions who remember Watership Down with the deepest affection, and also those for whom this volume will be their first encounter with the rabbits-- will find these nineteen tales utterly compelling, the fruit of Richard Adams spellbinding narrative power and ability to conjure up a world that is at the same time both real and unreal.

If you're thinking to read this be warned, its not really a sequel to Watership Down, its pretty fluffy compared to book one and doesn't follow on from the storyline. In fact you don't even see our legendary bunnies until 56% of the way through.

The first 55% of this book is Dandelion telling bunny folklore tales which are cute.

However once you hit Part 3 we meet up again with Kehaar the gull, Fiver, Hazel, Bigwig and the rest of the gang

A nice collection of short stories to add to the first book - Watership Down. I think it‘s best to not read one after another, gets a bit difficult if you do.

While not as linear as the first book, it was fun to have the familiar characters back. There were several more rabbit folktales, and more events with the new Watership Warren. While this book does not quite stand alone as a novel, it is a very delightful companion to Watership Down.

A great collection of stories! May require some knowledge of Watership Down, or at least unconcern about spoilers for that book. This book also includes a glossary if you need to brush up on your Lapine.
