From Brehm's Thierleben Alfred Brehm, illus. by Frederich Schiller. 1870. This belonged to my second great grandfather Hindermann.

Ok, so I found out what this book is. it is Brehm's Life of Animals: volume 1, mammals. 1868, in German. My Swiss ancestors were readers.

Anybody read German? This is one of my ancestral books. Again, this is what happens when you have a Swiss man marrying a New Orleans French-Creole Belle in your family tree but you have a 20th century Louisiana public school education. You have books in languages you can't read.

shawnmooney It's a Harry Potter translation. JUST KIDDING. ;) 8y
Seshat Lol, @shawnmooney . I found out what it is. Brehm's Life of Animals. 8y
Seshat @shawnmooney, I am having a lot of fun now imaging what a Harry Potter series written in 1868 would be like. 8y
