Hello America | J. G. Ballard
Mehso-so

I enjoyed the story. As you travel across America you follow a group that is unique funny and strange. The one thing I found was the writing style was different than I‘m used to, making it a harder read for me.

I was unaware of this Ballard novel. So far it's great but very different from his usual voice. It's almost like he wrote this one in American English instead of his usual, very British style.

Both absurd and prescient. I wonder what Mr. Ballard would make of today's attempt to "make America great again"? I think he'd be amused.

I have never enjoyed snow as much as some people. Any pleasure I found in it disappeared after 4 Minnesota winters. These Ballard novels have always felt like perfect companions. "Drowned World" is set in London following the polar ice caps melting & sea levels rising. London is essentially a tropical lagoon & it is unsafe to be outside during the day due to excessive heat. "Hello America" follows an expedition ?

vivastory That lands in Manhattan & is traveling to the west coast. America has been turned into a giant desert due to an nergy crisis. Both books are post apocalyptic works with a lot of social commentary that can be found in Ballard's work. 7y
