Today I finished reading The Empress of Bright Moon by Weina Dai Randel. Would highly recommend to historical fiction fans. A sympathetic telling of the rise to power of a woman usually depicted as ruthless, vicious, and downright murderous. Wu Zetian was the only woman to ever rule China, and this duology of books humanises the fascinating woman as it tells her story. Make sure to read The Moon in the Palace first, as this is the sequel!
