Pickpick

Geo was a likable character despite the choices of her past, and it was interesting to experience the flashbacks that contributed to the horrible events of “that night.” I figured out the “twist” pretty early on, but that‘s only because I watch way too much Criminal Minds and Investigation Discovery. I didn‘t mind that I figured it out because it just made me want to read to the end to confirm my own suspicions. 3.5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I liked how the book was able to provide viewpoints of those who were able to give a realistic picture of him outside of what his letters revealed about himself. Krakauer retraced Chris's steps by interviewing the people who came in contact with him while he drifted, and he created a timeline to explain it all. I listened to parts of this one on audiobook while I read the physical book, and the narrator did a great job of giving the story a voice.

For the first half of the book, I was totally captivated by the storyline. Christopher is such an unreliable character- do we believe him or don‘t we? I love an unreliable narrator as it keeps the reader guessing. During the second half, I was still interested... until the last quarter. The weird action-fight-battle scene was a bit too much and a bit too long. There were a TON of loose ends and things got religious and made everything awkward.

MonikaSadowski Really? I guess i will put this book to the end of my TBR list :) 5y
