I enjoyed this, although at times it was confronting. A great exploration of the mess Australia has made of our first nations cultures and the human toll of the gap between Indiegnous and non Indigenous people in this country. Scott has written some really beautiful, almost lyrical passages as well as some brutal truths.

Loved this! A bit Empire Records, a bit Fight Club, a bit Sailor Moon.

I loved this short story collection. Moving and beautiful and the local connection was great too. Maxine Beneba Clarke is a beautiful writer and the stories were incisive and moving.

This was pretty enjoyable. I listened to the audio which was read by the author and was quite endearing. I learnt quite a bit about Islam from this as well as some intricacies of the islamic community. I found it reminiscent of John Safran's 'Depends what you mean by extremist' which I also really liked. (Safran is a long time love of mine) A good read!

I'm listening to the audiobook of Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and I'm finding some of the voices quite disturbing. Engaging story though, even if the writing is a bit stilted at times.

I really enjoyed this book. Lila was delightful and the villains were great. I hope that the protagonist gets fleshed out a bit more in the subsequent books. The colour imagery was lovely too. A very visual read.

I quite enjoyed this even though there were some plot holes and messy writing at times. I enjoyed the imagery, particularly of Katsu.

I've just started this for my book club, seems like a lot of fun. 😉

I really enjoyed The Bear and The Nightingale. Vasya is a great heroine, there's excellent Russian names and interesting folk lore. What else could you want? Attractive bad guys? It's got them too!

I loved this! Funny and cute and quite moving. Great stuff.

This was at moments entertaining, charming and funny but at other times long winded and even a little dull. I enjoyed the combination of Icelandic sagas and family drama but it felt a bit too long.

An interesting collection of short stories with some magic realism, science fiction and dystopian styles. There was a heavy thread through the collection on motherhood which was a challenge for me but some intriguing persectives. After suggesting it for book club, I found myself worrying a bit about what some of my less literary book clubbers would think but many found at least some stories engaging. It sparked some good conversation at the least.

What a lovely book! Beautiful story and art. Very quick read too.

I place the blame squarely on 'The Crown'.

This was quite a slow, meandering sort of book but one that I quite enjoyed. I listened to the audio which was read with an Irish accent which probably helped. It was really quite heartbreaking at points and particularly focused on the suffering of women in nineteenth century rural Ireland.

Read this for work. I actually really enjoyed it. I loved the Indigenous mythology and the characters felt real and above even with minimal description. A good read for early teens.

I found this book strangely compelling. It was completely what I expected but I found it hard to put down anyway. I did learn a bit about wrestling, although the reliability of the information from the narrator might be a tad uncertain. I do love a bit of stream of conciousness, even if it is about wrestling.

Just received this in the mail. So pumped.

"Mee-Haul" - Caroline Lennon reading the name Michael in her Irish accent and flattening me with the information that it's pronounced that way in Gaelic. What.

A sprawling, epic mystery tale. It slowly lays out the story and took a little while for me to get into but as the story crept on my addiction increased. In the end, I refused to put it down! Some of the characters were more like caricatures or cardboard people and the treatment of the female characters leaves much to be desired but I highly recommend it to those wanting a strong narrative in which you can easily get lost.

I guess this was just not my cup of tea. I could not get into it.

I have read this old favourite many times. I listened to the audiobook which is read by the author herself this time. She does a wonderful job of varying the characters' voices. It is very much just the beginning of a series and isn't the most gripping on its own but I still love it.

A great read! It had whimsical elements but such a core of emotion and pain. It gave me the feeling that Denver was a small town with lots of secrets. A very compelling story that I devoured in a few days.

This was pretty good, although I did find myself skimming some sections. Gay's writing did give things to think about.
