The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a book that I hold dear to my heart. This book has been with me for as long as I remember. I remember a lot about this book and it being read to me by my parents when I was little. This book will always have a place in my heart and is a awesome read for young readers and young students. This book can be used in many ways with many different activities in the classroom. #ucflae3414f17

I would incorporate storytelling with this book as well as other visual representations that help students understand the story. I would also use ELL 17, provide contextual support through audio-visuals, models, demonstrations, body language and facial expressions. Where the Wild Things Are | Maurice Sendak

Where the Wild Things Are is a book about a little boy who about a forest and vast ocean filled with monsters that are his friends. I have never read this book before and I'm sad that I haven't got to it till now. I know it was made into a major motion picture film. This book is a great fantasy read for students and can also be used for storytelling.#ucflae3414f17

dakotap I would use EDL 9.3, develop self-assessment and reflection. Students would reflect and assess what's the story is about and the main Kia of the story that they heard. I would also incorporate ELL 36, ask numerous questions which require higher level thinking responses. I would use this in conjunction with EDL 9.3 to help assess and reflect on the story they heard. 6y

Charlotte's Web | E. B. White

Charlotte's Web has been a classic among many people. It is definitely a classic for me since I have read and seen many different iterations of the story in movies. This is one of my favorite stories to read and watch! This book is a great chapter book for students to read and make references and reflections over.#ucflae3414f17

I will use this to help students figure out the different patterns and relationships with the characters in this book. They would be able to make inferences about each character and their relationship to one another. I would also use ELL 36, ask numerous questions which require higher level thinking responses. 6y

The Little Prince | Antoine de Saint-Exupry

The Little Prince is a book that I found out about after seeing the movie on Netflix. After seeing the movie I realize that it was based off of a children's book and after that I started reading it. The book is fantastic for young readers and gives a great deal of imagination for the reader to explore! This fantasy book is one of my favorites.#ucflae3414f17

dakotap I would incorporate EDL 1.3, offer alternatives for visual information, story-telling session with this book and using props and other types of visual methods to help the students understand the story better. I would also use ELL 8, use direct instruction: modeling, explaining, scaffolding, name the strategy and show how to use it. I would use this with my storytelling to allow students to understand the story as well. 6y

While searching through the bookstore to find some children's books that I could use for it let's see project I came across the book Frederick. This book is a fantastic read for young readers. This book tells a tale about a mouse who instead of gathering food for the winter collects different types of colors and words to help him cheer up the other mice during the winter storm.#ucflae3414f17

dakotap I would use EDL 2.1, clarify vocabulary and symbols. I would use this to help students understand the types of words and how to use and form them in two paragraphs and sentences. I would also use ELL 5 Teach techincal vocabulary supporting key concepts to allow for students to use these key terms with the lesson i have constructed. 6y

I would also use ELL 15, reinforce the key ideas you present again and again. I would use this to make sure the students are aware of the moral of the story and how it can be attached to everyday life. 6y

The Crossover | Kwame Alexander

I have never heard of this book until Dr. Spalding showed it to us. This book is amazing in the fact that it is geared to certain types of students in schools. The author really wanted his students to get more into reading so he created a RF about basketball. It has also won two awards, one being the Newberry medal.#ucflae3414f17

A Wrinkle in Time | Madeleine L'Engle

I did not know about this book until after seeing the trailer for the movie that Disney is making. After seeing that trailer I instantly grab the book to read it I have not finished it but as of I have read it is an awesome book. This book brings us on a journey through Discovery and Imagination and has lots of twists and turns within its story. This book would be great for young readers to read on their own time and reflect on it.#ucflae3414f17

I would use this with a activity that allows them to create their own comic strip and story. I would also use ELL 2, promote cooperation, with the comic strip activity so that they can work together to create a story they like. 6y

I love the pigeon series, but out of all of them The Pigeon Finds A Hotdog is my favorite. It is an awesome story and life lesson for students. This book like others in its series follows the pigeon and the different adventures that he goes through. This book would be a great storytelling piece for students. #ucflae3414f17

dakotap When having tgis in my class i would use EDL 2.5, illustrate through multiple media, by playing the movie and letting the kids read to help compare both types of media. I woild also us ELL 10, teach think, pair and share strategies in Cooperative groups with EDL 2.5. 6y

I have had this book since I was in late Elementary School. This book is a great chapter book for students who like good Mysteries. This book is a great read to have in the classroom to help kids get into Mysteries and see what they are like! The 39 Clues book takes you on a journey with Amy and Dan Cahill where they try to find their family's power and the mysteries behind it. #ucflae3414f17

dakotap I would use UDL 3.2, highlight patterns, critical features, Big Ideas, and relationships. This would help with understanding the story and the mysteries within the book. I would also use ELL 15, reinforce the key ideas you present again, so that students can understand the information within the book. I would be able to get the key ideas "stuck in their head". 6y

When I went to barnes and noble with the class i saw this book and I got excited! The Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book out of the Harry Potter series. I am happy to see a picture book verison of the 3rd book in the series! This would be great for students to get into more High Fantasy books at a lower reading level. I would definitely have this book in my classroom to help kickstart more high fantasy stories with the students.#ucflae3414f17

This book is different because it is geared to early developmental children. However, this book and its many series in the berenstain family can be used to teach life lesson for early learners. I would definitely use the F to create a better mindset within young children. #ucflae3414f17

After having to read this many times over for teachlive, i have found this book to be a great educational tool on teaching children about the towers and what happened and to never give up on a dream. This book follows a man named Philippe and his dream to walk across the towers on a rope. This historical fiction book would be great to teach about peoples dreams and ambitions that led to major historical moments in history. #ucflae3414f17

dakotap I would use EDL 3.1, activate or supply background knowledge. This will help the students understand what the importance of this historical event was. I would also use ELL 4, link lesson topic to students prior knowledge. I would see what the students knows about the two towers and the significance behind them. 6y
Radams This is an awesome book, I read it for teach live as well. You included great UDL and EL strategies to enhance your lesson. One thing I‘m not quite sure about is whether it‘s considered HF or NF. I thought NF, but HF seems right too. 6y

Knuffle Bunny | Mo Willems

I was given this book by Dr. Spalding herself. And i am so glad i picked this one! This book is a simple read for younger children and it talks about trixie and how she loses her bunny during a trip to the laundromat. This book is a great storytelling book for younger elementary since it is a very simple read.

This RF has many ways to be included in the classroom that could help with teaching about going for your dreams and never giving up. I have had this book ever since i was in Elementary school. These books have been an awesome read and a great twist on a story that involves cats. This book is in the styles of survival with cats that can talk and belong to different "clans". This realistic fiction would be a great read for children during the summer to continue their comprehension skills. This RF has many different sequels and spin offs that would surely keep and student busy.

dakotap I would use EDL 2.1, clarify vocabulary and symbols. I would use this because the book, depending on the student, might be a bit advanced. So i would help clarify any vocabulary and symbols that are difficult. I would also us ELL 2, promote cooperation. This goes with my EDL 2.1 in which students would help each other to better understand and comprehend the book. 6y

This book is so far my favorite and had me hook when i first started reading it. The book won a newberry award and i a great work of fiction. This F would be a great book to use in class for reading session amd learning chapter books.
