I enjoyed this book a lot. I would use this book to incorporate the women in history that are very well represented!

This biography is very friendly for children as it informs them of the chemist, Marie Cutie. This book is a great introduction to women in science and their contributions. I really enjoyed the author‘s emphasis on the importance of Marie‘s accomplishments such as being the first woman to win a Nobel Prize.

I would use this book to represent the students in my classroom who have moved to a different place or know what it feels like to start over completely.

In this autobiography, Yuyi Morales shares her story of leaving her home and moving to the U.S. with her son. The text is very simple for children to understand and read along: the book offers an after note on why she came to the U.S. as well. The book uses illustrations to convey the story which can be easier for younger children to follow along and even more interesting to see real life pictures at the end!

I would definitely use this book in my classroom to foster the importance of differences and individuality.

In this autobiography, Sonia Sotomayer, a U.S. Supreme Court justice writes about and uses her experiences as a child, to inspire young diversity and abilities and how they are important. The authh h or does a great job in depicting the idea that your ability should not hinder you in reaching for your goals.

I love this book! It‘s inspiring for children and the idea that they can defy odds that are against them.

This biography tells the story of four African American female mathematicians who participated in some of NASA‘s greatest successes. The author displays how these four women were so successful and how they were able to overcome gender and racial issues as well. As it does not have every little detail l, this book is a great introduction for kids.

This book can be used into inspire children in your classroom to be whatever they want to be!

This biography does a really good job in depicting the life of Jacques Cousteau. A famous oceanographer. The author even offers a not at the end of the book. A great read for children as the author tells the story of how this man‘s initial interests as a child become his reality!

This book is so cute! I would use this in my classroom to get children curious about events that happen and how they become tradition!

This biography tells about how the Macy‘s Day Parade came to be and the mastermind puppeteer, Tony Sarge begins it all. This book is a very enlightened approach to all the obstacles Tony faced in making puppets for a parade. The author even adds a notes page at the end with pictures of Tony and his work.

I would use this book to give my students a representation of women in history and science.

This biography portrays the life of Katherine Johnson who was a mathematician. The author make a bigger emphasis on all that she accomplished than the hardships she faced such as racism and sexism. I loved how this book incorporates both her small and large accomplishments throughout her career.

I would use this book in my classroom because children love to learn about things they can connect with and Disney is one of them!

This biography is a fun take on Walt Disney‘s life. This book is very engaging for children as the author uses an uplifted tone throughout the book. The author also provides insight to other things happening in the world by putting little blurbs on each page. Very informational and a great read!

I enjoyed this book because it inspires kids to be everyday heroes!

Biography. The author does a great job in representing woman of color who are lesser known. These everyday woman are exemplified through the biographies to children as both hero‘s and role models. The authors use of animation picture would be relatable to children of younger ages as the text may be a little bit more challenging. The author also uses quotes from these women.

I think this book is great for children to read as a class as it will keep them on their toes about what will happen next!

Historical fiction. This book tells the story of children placed in the setting of the early ABalck Panther Party. The author does a great job in using a story line about three young sister to portray a topic and moment in history that is rarely present in Children‘s books.

This book is a very good display for young children on slavery and I would use in my classroom definitely!

“Some slaves were freed by their owners. Henry‘s heart beat fast. Maybe the master would free him.”

This book is a great take on slavery as it is kid friendly and has a great approach to introducing slavery: the idea that Henry ships himself off to freedom can be a less brutal approach on the reality of how things were for slaves. The book still provides a lot of important aspects/facts for children to know about.

“It‘s a strange thing but somehow we expect more of girls than boys.”

I would use this book as an opportunity to talk about the civil war and incorporate a history lesson after!

Historical Fiction. The authors sense of fun throughout the book allows children to connect to the story! The book is very detailed, creating a good image of life during the civil war and what that may have been like for Caddie growing up.

“Whatever it means to be a friend, taking a black eye for someone has to be in it.”

I think this book is very humorous and I would use it in my classroom! I think children would be very engaged and it retest throughout the story.

Historical fiction. This book is the story of a boy who learns about the writings of Shakespeare and the impact they have on him. The main character does not practice a religion so he must stay with his teacher for the rest of the day who makes him read Shakespeare. The authors use of comedy and an uplifted tone throughout the book helps children how holing grows throughout the book.

“Love is always a big deal.”

I would use this book with an older class as it has difficult language and words for younger children. The concepts are a little more explicit for younger crowds as well.

Historical fiction. This story is of Betty Shabazz‘s middle school life and the effects her home life had on her as well. The book uses a great deal of language from the 1940‘s to tell the story. This really sets the tone for the bookN Racism is a strong theme throughout the book as well.

“You have to give as good as you get.”

This book can be used in a classroom setting to instill qualities in young children such as perseverance and bravery.

This book is about a young girl, Rachael who is sent to England and away from her family because of an out break of influenza. The author uses a lot of imagery that is great in helping depict each ales mood in the story. The story can teach children how to be brave and courageous like Rachael!

“She gripped her imaginary bell with both hands. She pulled back and let it fly.”

I would use this book to show my students how there is a lack of equity among women and men and also minority groups.
