Loved this story, what an awesome NF book to hear about the events that occur after deer come into your city garden. You will definitely have to check this book out and explore the amazing story of these deer.

#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy This would be an awesome story for CR. This would give students a chance to build fluencies with one another and continually support performance (5.3)UDL.

For my EL‘s I would monitor their comprehension during the lesson and make sure we are building on those fluencies (6).

3y
Mmurphy An awesome resource would be https://www.teachingbooks.net/annotations.cgi?id=46847#t_cid_...

This is full of activities as well as sample lesson plans for the book if you need.
3y
hhockenberry This book looks so pretty! I‘ll have to look it up! 3y
Betrinag Your cute sheets caught my eye!! I love the concept of the book, and the attached lesson plans are helpful to have in hand! 3y
DrSpalding I agree with Betrina… Do you think this is non-fiction or is it actually realistic fiction? Did this actually happen? Sample lesson plans to help you implement books can be very helpful. 3y

Amazing! What a funny MF book that is sure to bring laughter to your classroom. Journey with Ike La Rue as he writes down his excursions in obedience school which can be considered quite dramatic.
#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy This would be an awesome RA as your students follow along, they will be able to process the information and visualize it (3.3) UDL. They will understand the information whenever they see how his letters don‘t always match up with what‘s happening.

For my EL students, we need to make sure to give them enough time to respond on whether or not these letters match his experiences (22).
3y
Mmurphy
An awesome resource is a discussion guide provided by scholastic, so we can make sure we are creating proper questions for our RA. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/dear-mrs-larue...
3y
Adodd1 Scholastic has so many fantastic resources, and I really enjoy how they provide content for your chosen teaching strategy. Great picture too!!! 3y

ztorres OH MY GOODNESS!!! What an adorable picture. Great resource, but I think scholastic always provides amazing resources for teachers to use. Adding it to my list of books to read. 3y
Nrossi I love this picture! And the book seems like a super great one to read to a class. Super cute review and awesome resources! 3y
KeanaE We love the dog content!!! What a great resource to include for this book 3y
DrSpalding Much like The Day the Crayons Quit, this book is excellent for teaching children how to write friendly letters. Scholastic is a wonderful, high-quality resource. Read aloud is the appropriate teaching strategy for this quality picture book. 3y

Wow what a cute MF book all about a costume-loving girl. Follow Sylvia Jean as we see her in her many different outfits as she prepares for a costume contest. What will she go as? Find out by reading this pig-tastic tale.

#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy I think this would make a great DR since we see her in her many different outfits. We could have a role for every student to act like her in costume as we go through the story. This will highlight patterns and the big idea of the story (3.2)UDL.

For our EL students, I would reinforce the key ideas of Sylvia Jean in her many outfits to create understanding of the lesson (15).

3y
Mmurphy There aren‘t any resources that I could find featuring activities however there is a read aloud available that you can pause as students act out different parts of the story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYVt8c6yNF0 3y
DrSpalding You have a nice writing style! Dramatic reenactment after a read aloud sounds like a great idea. Your universal design and English learner strategies align nicely. 3y

The Giving Tree | Shel Silverstein
post image
Mehso-so

As someone who missed out on this classic, I found it very interesting to read through the lens of an adult. This P book follows a tree and its relationship with a young boy as they both grow together and apart. This book is considered controversial and is believed to be sexist so please be conscious of that before bringing it into your classroom.

#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy This would be an interesting AS as Shel Silverstein is known for some classis in literature. This would help manage information in resources in teaching our students about different authors (6.3) UDL.

For our EL students, I would have them create a graphic organizer about the author in question so they are able to organize the information to better understand it (7).

3y
Mmurphy A resource to find activities in your classroom would be: https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/giving-tree
This resource includes the 50th anniversary activity booklet which has many things you can take away and use in your lesson.
3y
DrSpalding It‘s hard to believe that this book has been around that long! Reading is fundamental is a quality resource and I really like the idea of providing an author study. 3y

Loved this cute RF book as we follow the story of a girl dreaming of making friends. Norma No Friends has always dreamed of a friend and one day she climbs up the top of a very far away hill to find? Guess you‘ll have to read it to find out.

#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy
This would be a great option for SR. Not only are we building connections like in the story, but shared reading is a great way to build fluencies with gradual levels of support for practice and performance (5.3)UDL.

For our EL‘s I would use previews/reviews activities so students can understand the context and what happened in the story (13).
3y
Mmurphy A great resource to complete your shared reading strategy would be through reading rockets. https://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/shared_reading

3y
DrSpalding It looks like fantasy because of the images but I will believe you that it is realistic fiction. Shared reading is a good idea as long as all students have access to the text. Reading rockets is a high-quality resource and I like the idea of finding resources that support the teaching strategies you plan to implement with your future students. 3y

Who Was Mister Rogers? | Diane Bailey, Who Hq

Pickpick

Really enjoyed this B, NY best-selling book about one of my favorite people in history. Follow along as we learn all about Mister Roger‘s and his significance in our childhood as well as his impact on children‘s television.
#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy
This is a great option for PR to learn about an important figure. This would increase mastery-oriented feedback. As they discuss with one another what they are learning about Mister Roger‘s and why they each found the information important (8.4)UDL.

For my EL‘s, I would highlight important sections of the text I want them to focus on and share with their partner and vice versa (27.)

3y
Mmurphy An awesome resource is the “WHO HQ” website full of activity pages and games to help your students stay engaged while learning about him. https://www.whowasbookseries.com/books/who-was-mister-rogers/

3y
DrSpalding I still have not seen this movie with Tom Hanks. Your resource is excellent and so is this series. I like the idea of partner reading or even using these books as independent reading as they research an important current day or historical figure. 3y

This is an incredible HF, Christopher award-winning book set in WWII, following the legend of King Christian X of Denmark as he figures out how to best lead his people with the troubling discoveries of living in this war. This book brought me to tears and even though there is no proof of this even actually occurring King Christian was known to stand with the Jewish citizens of Denmark throughout WWII.

#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy This would be a deep LC for students to do with one another as they are able to discuss and understand further what the significance of this book is. We would be using multiple tools for construction and composition of this information by learning the information collected by the different members in the LC (5.2)UDL.
3y
Mmurphy For our EL‘s, I would use information gap activities, so they are able to retrieve information from one another based on their job in the LC.

A great resource is a lesson plan provided by the Holocaust teacher resources website: http://www.holocaust-trc.org/the-yellow-star/
3y
Ericaj This book looks interesting. Books base on World War 2 interests me. The website you provide shows ways to integrate into different subjects. It is important to integrate literature into different subjects. I will add this to my book list. 3y
DrSpalding Carmon is a New York Times best-selling author! She visited our university several years ago at the UCF- book festival! She is amazing! Your resource is excellent and this book could certainly be used during social studies instruction in fifth grade. 3y

Wow, I am at a loss of words with this story. I traded this book at my neighborhood‘s book bin and fell in love. This is a RF book following the seeds of a dandelion as it visits every continent and continues forward.

#ucflae3414sp21

This would be an awesome RA to foster collaboration and community (8.3)UDL. I would achieve this by showing the impact of one dandelion and how we are all connected together.

Mmurphy For my EL Students, I would incorporate their culture in my lesson by talking about the different communities in our story (24.)
(edited) 3y
Mmurphy This book was just published in 2021 so there aren‘t any resources for it just yet however I will include the link so you can purchase it yourself. I personally think this is a great read for an Earth day activity and highly recommend. I think we will be hearing more about this book in the future. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/little-dandelion-seeds-the-world-julia-richards... 3y
DrSpalding It looks like you made an excellent trade! I have added this to my stack. This would be a fabulous book to use during a geography unit… Excellent book selection and post. 3y

Such a colorful story! This is a fantastic RF book perfect for young readers. Follow belugas as we watch them venture through their days in this cute picture book.

#ucflae3414sp21

I would use this book for a DR to get everyone up and moving while having them act out the words in the story. This would vary the methods for response and navigation by giving them a physical response and build fluency by acting out the words (4.1)UDL.

Mmurphy For my EL students, they would be using TPR (total physical response.) This DR would allow them to physically respond to understand the story.

A great resource for this would be Scott‘s website: https://scottmagoon.com/breathe
It‘s all about the book including a story time video from Scott himself.
3y
DrSpalding I like the inclusion of the pens on your book images. Dramatic reenactment would work well and certainly aligns with total physical response. Hearing the author read aloud the story can be very powerful for students. 3y

Such a fun story! This MF book is for sure read, it will have your craving donuts, apple juice, baseball, and so much more. This story follows our main character, a dog who discovers the many different things he wants to eat, say, or do.

#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy I would use this book as a S which I plan to do in my upcoming presentation. By creating a physical object showing how one item leads to the next. This would guide information processing and visualization (3.3)UDL.

For my EL‘s I would reinforce the key ideas I am presenting again and again to make sure they are able guide their processing(15).
3y
Mmurphy A great resource for activities and other pages is:

3y
OliviaBuck These are some of my favorite books. A storytelling is a great idea as well!! Good luck! 3y

A beautiful tale, this Caldecott Award-winning, TL book is one to be passed down for ages. This story will stick with me for a long time and it is a great way to introduce your students to tales from other cultures. This tale follows what happens after a mosquito lies to a lizard that causes panic in their environment.

#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy I would use this story as a CR for my students. This would build fluencies while supporting one another with their voices (5.3)UDL.

For my EL‘s I would monitor their comprehension while they read by having them CR with one or two partners(6).
3y
DrSpalding Website resource is missing. 3y

The Book Thief | Markus Zusak

One of my favorite Printz award-winning books that I treasure! This HF book will bring you back in time to Germany during WWII with a coming-of-age story for our main character Leisel as she faces many challenges.
#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy
For this book I would use it as a LC, I remember seeing students read this in school and they would all talk about how fascinated they were. After reading it, I know this would be a success for a LC. My students would be able to increase their feedback due to how personal this story becomes and how fascinated the students will be (8.4)UDL.
3y
Mmurphy For my EL‘s I would have the groups create a timeline of events so they are better able to understand the story and what happens to the characters (42.)

A great resource to find activites for this story would be:

All I can say is this book is amazing, this Golden Kite Award winning, P book will have you speechless. Tami Charles has outdone herself in this incredible poetic text. This book is a letter to children of color everywhere filling them with love and assurance. This is a must read for any class!
#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy I would use this as an AS to optimize the relevance, value, and authenticity of this story (7.2)UDL. I would personally use this to connect to the people around us who have created incredible things and highlight important things that we should care and learn about.

For my EL‘s I would have them work in pairs to study this author with a online scavenger hunt so they are able to work together to achieve the lesson goal (32.).
3y
Mmurphy For this scavenger hunt I would use the authors website: https://tamiwrites.com/ 3y
AlexRobinson GREAT choice and even better strategy to use! Author studies with books pertaining to diversity and inclusion I always think are best! Being able to understand the passion and story behind the author as to why they wrote such a profoundly insightful book and what the message means to them adds to the meaning of the text for the audience. An online scavenger hunt is an incredible tool to dive into the authors life- love it! 3y

#ucflae3414sp21

Mmurphy I would use this as a RA so my students are able to process the story together and visualize it through the images in the book (3.3)UDL. By giving proper questioning and engaging our listeners they are better able to process the story while seeing it in the pictures.
3y
Mmurphy For my EL‘s I would use TPR during my reading to keep them engaged while having them act out what they are hearing in the story (18). A great resource on how to use TPR would be https://www.theteachertoolkit.com/index.php/tool/total-physical-response-tpr 3y

#ucflae3414sp21

I would use this story for a RA in my classroom. I can use this strategy to highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships (3.2)UDL.
