Dark, twisted, sensual. Characters enthrall even as they cross normal boundaries into taboos that usual "heroes" don't tread. Unique read and well paced.
Long but entertaining read. (Spoilers) my biggest issue was that contemporary husband is not overly well developed in comparison to Jamie. Claire's motivation and the ensuing struggles and conflict revolving around her determination to get back to her own time feel hollow. I spent half the book wanting to ask her if she was only wanting to go back for indoor plumbing and penicillin. The latter half of the book is much better.
Started reading this. I expect to be freaked out. I am a horror wimp ;)
Love this series and how characters grow. Like how she writes the complex relationship between Roland and Kate.
Dark look at how fear and extremism can warp society and how quickly we can lose the freedoms we take for granted. Author does not shy away from making the reader uncomfortable inside the main character's head. Also, does not paint her as a saint or heroic, but a flawed individual. It's not an emotionally easy read, but still good.
