Forget the Alamo: The True Story of the Myth That Made Texas | Bryan Burrough, Chris Tomlinson, Jason Stanford
post image
Pickpick

An in-depth analysis on the Alamo.

Being raised in Texas and taught in Texas schools, we are given a specific narrative of how the Texans bravely fought the Alamo. This book does not dispute the bravery but goes into depth about how some aspects that are prominent in our education may be false.

Ben provides advice on how to be a CEO.

I‘m not entirely sure why I listened to this book, but it was on my list. He doesn‘t really provide advice other than the choose he made for his many times as CEO. This was more of a book to toot his own horn than anything.

I found this book fascinating except the one part that hits a lot deeper now that I have a kid and it would have been deep prior to motherhood. I almost had to stop the book.

Junior decides to leave the Rez for a better education.

I enjoyed this story of Junior, there were a lot of sad moments but it was so witty and the cartoons rounded off everything nicely. I‘m glad I didn‘t listen to the audiobook on this one.

Eddie details his experiences of the Holocaust and gives advice to everyone on how to be happy.

It‘s interesting the differences between Frankl and Jaku‘s viewpoint of the world after the Holocaust. Frankl is more forgiving while Jaku holds anger in the choices that some people made. As well as Frankl doesn‘t strive for happiness but understanding in suffering while Jaku focuses on being happy.

2021 year in review

Finished reading 176 books

Mostly audiobooks.

My favorites were from Ruta Sepetys and Fredrik Bachman- Between Shades of Gray, Out of the Easy, Fountains of Silence, Anxious People, and A Man called Ove.

My least favorites were Paper Towns, Things Fall Apart, and Pride and Prejudice.

I read a ton off of my shelf and many classics.

My goal for next year is to continue reading as much as I can for myself and my baby boy

I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this book. I had never been the greatest fan of Matthew McConaughey, and my only interaction with him was at ACL many years ago and he was dancing to a band right in front of my view of the band. I was annoyed to say the least.

But listening to this it makes me realize that he worked hard for his good luck and green lights to be where he is at today. It‘s a fun audiobook narrated by him.

Is it just me or is Mary Poppins, the character, a little vain and rude? I don‘t really understand why the children in the book love her except that odd things happen when she is around. Overall though, I enjoyed the stories in the book.

DrexEdit Oh yes. More than a little I would say! But I think the children like her despite her gruff manner because she gives then adventures. 3mo

Artemis and crew try to save Atlantis upon destruction.

You can tell the author wrote this book right after he wrote for the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. The writing is different in this book than the rest of the Artemis Fowl series, but it‘s very similar to the writing of the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. I liked this one more than the last two or three.

I found this book to be very rewarding to read, it was funny, informative and a not too long winded. I have to agree with most of this guys points. One is take responsibility with your actions or how you respond to an outside factor.

This book has a ton of explicit words, so if you do not care about that, I recommend it.

Tiger learns that love is shown in different ways.

In 6th grade, my library hosted an event where if you read one book by a certain author you would be invited to a “private” talk with the author. I read all of her books before the date and got to be a part of the private talk. She was a genuinely nice lady. I also managed to save up enough money ($5 😅) to purchase my favorite of her books for her to sign. I will never forget it.

Artemis, a young boy, wanting to gain control of his family‘s business again, decides to capture a fairy.

I got this book many years ago for a birthday present and I loved it. It is a good JF story. What I don‘t recommend is watching the movie. It destroyed the essence of what made the book so great and a good read for me even as an adult.

Texreader That‘s how I felt about the recent movie made from A Wrinkle in Time. It was horrible 4mo
freeatlast1137 @Texreader agreed, that is another book Disney destroyed. They focus so much on the settings instead of what makes the books great. If they focused more on the plot, building the character, then the visuals would fall into place naturally. 4mo

I always have mixed feelings about this book in the series. Coming off of the fifth one, it seems good but when you think about it. Dumbledore constantly puts a underage child at risk and expects him to basically give up his childhood for the sake of the saving the world.

Also, I read so much slower now, if it wasn‘t for audiobooks and a job that requires some noise outside of cubicle life, I would probably be at one book read a month.
