Book 1 of the Grant County Series does a good job of introducing the main protagonists and supporting characters. The level of violence in this story sets the bar for description that few authors would commit to. Because we are seeing events from the POV of a doctor and a county sheriff, the author doesn‘t hold back. Pacing and character development was good. I read the entire series.

This is a fascinating look into how America has developed the offensive branch of its clandestine service. It‘s a long read but the detail doesn‘t get into the weeds. There is no play-by-play detail about the events that occur. Instead Jacobson keeps the story on point weaving her way through the complex maze of CIA and military activities that the government authorized but does not acknowledge.

The Black Echo: A Novel | Michael Connelly
Pickpick

Like other readers I chose to read this series after finding the show on Amazon Prime. The Black Echo was a great opener for the series. The key elements of his back story are intermingled with the case. It cements the reader‘s interest that guarantees they will pick up the next novel.

This was the first of this series I‘ve listened to. It has an entertaining premise of taking the children‘s bedtime story genre and corrupting it to tell tales suitable only for adults. It was a free pick on Audible and the perfect fit for a 2 hour drive. The narration adds to the appeal with excellent voice actors like Nick Offerman, Patrick Stewart and Ellen Page.
