Four friends from the same Rez, a hunting trip from their youthful past, the vengeance of a mother...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5!!!

Loved this book, very immersive in a tense cant-look-away Horrifying way! I really enjoyed all the different character perspectives, can‘t wait to read more by the author!

CW: extreme violence, mutilation, gore, death of people and animals

#horror

SamAnne Loved this ine too!!!! And I‘m not a big horror reader. I just finished Mongrels….not as good as this one but really great characters. Starting Night of the Mannequins this coming week. And I highly recommend The TV show Reservation Dogs, a comedy/drama with one episode involving a bad ass Deer Woman….. 3y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! This one hit hard, these characters are so real and flawed and vulnerable! All four protags bring very different nuanced hurts and experiences when it comes to family womanhood and racial identity and any time they share a scene you can feel it all⚡️⚡️

Topics and triggers: Colourism, Racism, Intergenerational trauma, Running away from home, White Violence, Domestic Abuse, Sexual Abuse (both minors and adults),

Pick-up 'Pet'⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! With unexpected help, Jam bravely faces hard truths in order to protect the people that she loves!

So glad there's a book where black, trans, and neurodivergent youth can read themselves as the protagonist and see they deserve a world that believes, loves, and protects them 💕💕#LGBTQ #YA

Tw: CSA as a major topic (*non graphic descriptions), mentions: police violence, suicide, body horror, eye trauma, sexual assault

Addison_Reads I was blown away by this one too when I read it. 3y

Her Body and Other Parties | Carmen Maria Machado

It's got heartbreak! It's got motherhood trauma! It's got an SVU fanfiction!

Her Body and Other Parties is a collection of eight supernatural adjacent stand-alone stories with each story featuring Queer women as the main character!

Machado's writing is funny, surreal, and personal. I give the collection itself ⭐⭐⭐/5 stars, BUT I had a particular connection to The Husband Stitch, Real Women Have Bodies, and Eight Bites! #LGBTQ #WLW #ShortStories

SamAnne I liked this collection—some stories are better than others. But she really homes her craft in her memoir In the Dream House, one of the best books I‘ve read thus year. Or last year! (edited) 4y
B00SEGUMPS @SamAnne I'm really looking forward to In the Dream House! I've only heard good things! 4y

I‘m so excited that this book is the start of a series!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

It gave me an easy reading experience in an immersive magical universe that centers around friendships, self-discovery, and cultural exploration!

This take on the magical world is fresh, the main characters are fleshed out and have great chemistry, and the diversity is intentional and organic to the story! #YAseries #Magic

Freshwater | Akwaeke Emezi

CW: sexual trauma, abusive relationships, self-harm, hospitalization, physical and sexual child abuse, substance abuse.

Freshwater was a hard slice of life novel representing the intricacies of identity and thought and religion, while also intertwining with topics of inner gods and other-selves.

This book picks up and shines brighter in its last half when we are finally able to see Ada vocalize her thoughts on what's happening to her!
