Dream Country | Shannon Gibney

Mehso-so

Dream Country follows a family line revolving around Liberia. It starts and ends in America with Liberian refugees with the middle jumping to three different points in time in Liberia. I appreciated learning history I did not know. However, this book did not captivate my soul in the way I was hoping. I had to make myself pick up the book to read, rather than being unable to put it down.

This book was one of those cannot put down, just one more chapter type of books. If you are a fan of podcasts (especially crime podcasts), this book was made for you. The book alternates chapters between the script of a podcast and the story told from the perspective of the missing girl the podcast is trying to find. If your are looking for a fast paced, heart wrenching story, this is for you. Please don‘t miss out!

Helen cracks me up. Reading this is like having someone read a romance novel next to you and inject their snarky comments when the dialogue is becoming too serious. 😆

More plot twists to make sure you haven‘t figured it all out, yet still leading us toward a conclusion. Another great addition to the series!

A lot of backstory in this one allowed for the opportunity to learn about the deadmen. Equally balanced with the backstory were some intense battles. The cliff hanger at the end has me reaching for Volume 9!

My favorite bit of nostalgia. Once my first grade teacher determined a was proficient in reading, I was given my reading license. I still use it as a bookmark. ❤️

Started this series on the recommendation of a friend. Number 6 did not disappoint with a new character and startling plot line. Looking forward to Volume 7! (Luckily my friend brings them to me in sets of 5 so I don‘t have to wait long.)

Replica is told from the perspectives of two young women, Lyra and Gemma. You literally flip the book to the other side and read the back half of the book to read Gemma‘s perspective. While I read, I alternated between the two perspectives, switching after each chapter. Replica tells the story of an institute practicing cloning and the effects it has the lives of those connected, both intentionally and unintentionally.

Kwame Alexander has stolen my heart again. This book is about a young man whose famous musician father embraces the ugly side of fame. Blade, the son, goes on a journey to discover who he is and in the process learns so much more. Highly recommend!

I haven‘t been this caught up in a book in a while! I am enjoying the two perspectives, though sometimes I find I want to stay on one perspective just to advance the plot further!
