The Harry Potter series uses the #UnexpectedVillain trope a few different times- first Quirrell, then Scabbers, then Crouch as Mad-Eye. Were any of these surprising to you on your first time through? #TropesInAugust
@Klou

Klou I chose Quirrell for mine! I remember when I watched the movies for the first time I was so shocked by that revelation. But the most shocking for me out of the 3 you've mentioned was Scabbers. I remember sitting forward in my seat for that one, I was so surprised. 4y
Andrea313 @Klou I read the books first, and both Quirrell and Scabbers were a shock to me! Scabbers more so, because it signaled the dawning realization of just how big this world was that Rowling was building, and how she planted several of the details back in the first book. I believe the phrase "I was *shook*" puts best how I was feeling that night way back in 2000 when I first read it! 4y
Klou @Andrea313 you're so right! I've never even thought of that, but it's true. She put so much thought into and had so many things tying together the further into the movies/books you get. Wow, I kind of wish I'd read the books first just for that experience. 4y

Dolores Umbridge is my pick for #unexpectedvillain . She is terrifying because let‘s face it, she is real...she exists outside of books. I‘m not afraid of ghosts or the supernatural, I‘m afraid of other humans. 😱
