Today‘s reading…
I know everyone seems to love this “cozy read” but where‘s the plot? When is something going to happen? I‘m halfway through and I don‘t care anymore. Maybe it‘s the translation but this book is boring. 😴 It‘s going back to the library.
Well, this sped by. It was kinda fun (especially with the illustrations), but not very substantial? Felt like a short story.
Took a day off from work, did school drop off (first day chaos), had a hearty breakfast and hit the library. Took a cat nap before school pick up too! All this is rare and highly savoured. 💙
A story about the victims of the Gwangju student uprising in 1980. I didn't know anything about South Korean history so had no idea about how the military slaughtered the students. A very tough read, specially the parts of the torture and treatment of the corpses, very graphic but I understand the necessity when the cruelties committed were denied for such a long time. The writing is amazing, I'll definitely read more from the author. ⬇️
Spoiler free because I want you to find this story, not read it to complete your yearly goal.
No rating can describe this story. This story was just meant to be felt, to be observed. I finished this story yesterday, but it is all I could think about. I wanted this story to end & not end at the same time.
My librarian suggested this one…shout out to Ava!! It didn‘t disappoint. You will fall in love with Sprout the Hen, she‘s determined, a survivor and a loving, protective mother❤️#SouthKorea
I think this is going to be a running theme in this series
I meant to read this for #FoodandLit #SouthKorea but never did! I was slightly apprehensive about keeping people & events straight (it is a 17th-c. novel with stories inside stories). It's still early days, but it's been fine so far. Even fun! The end-notes are quite helpful...
