Okay, my book club got shushed in the library today. Do you librarians still do this or is it just this librarian? We weren‘t actually that loud, just a lively discussion. #shhhh My Baltimore County Library was always a vibrant, active space for families.
Soubhiville My library has private meeting rooms for bookclubs, and kids have their own floor, so it stays fairly quiet in the adult spaces. 5y

Susanita I tried to telework at the library before we got home wireless, and it was so loud I couldn‘t concentrate! 5y

JacqMac My library is always so loud. So loud. I don‘t visit it very often. 5y
KathyWheeler It depends. We provide quiet study spaces, so if people are loud in those areas, we will tell people they need to be quiet. My particular pet peeve is people having long personal conversations on their cellphones; I don‘t want to be privy to that, so I will ask people to take those conversations elsewhere. Also if people studying tell us the noise is bothering them, we will ask people to be quiet. 5y
Wife I want a quiet library please. Sometimes the library employees at the checkout counter are ridiculously loud when talking and laughing with each other. 😠🤫🤫🤫 5y
kezzlou85 My local library is both. The upstairs is quiet with computers and adult books. The downstairs is noisy with the kids books and groups there. They do storytelling, music classes, Lego classes and all sorts. It's a really good library as offers so much. 5y
LibrarianRyan I hate a quiet library. There are special rooms for that. A quite library feels like a dead library. I should know I work at one. 5y
eri.reads My local library is kinda loud at times and our librarians don't shush ppl. I don't mind unless it's someone on their cell phone. Pls step outside for personal calls .... 5y
Samplergal Thanks for everyone‘s responses. This is a small library without all the “quiet rooms” and meeting spaces. Our larger county library system is very different, accommodating groups such as yoga and Zumba in those rooms. I guess I was just totally surprised because this library is always trying to increase their patronage. I don‘t think we were out of line and feel this librarian is just angry. (edited) 5y
Samplergal @LibrarianRyan agreed! It brings back memories of my elementary school librarian. You could have recorded music tracks in there, and was horribly unwelcoming. 5y
LibrarianRyan @Samplergal I hate librarians like that, but I know quite a few. And sushing people is one of the best ways of making sure they do not come back. Here I just have to remind people to watch what they talk about. We have so much marble, that conversations on two carry all the way up to five. Even if they are whispered. 5y
