It‘s hard to find a yoga class for true beginners. Nowadays YouTube helps but back “before times” this book was a great resource. I‘ve found other yoga books since then, some I‘ve liked more, but won‘t give this one up.

KathyWheeler I had that one too at one point, but it‘s been awhile. I like that, with YouTube, you can find routines that give you alternate ways of doing things if you have problem areas. 3y

I ‘ve kept a lot of training journals over the years from palm size spirals to phone apps. Analog works better for me and I find that the more detail I record, the more I am motivated.

Leaving behind the fourteener hiking books for the moment, the Swiss Ball was revolutionary in motivating me on strength training. I always did strength exercises to supplement another activity. Swiss Ball exercises are ones I actually enjoy.

Because I can‘t just do a sport or activity , I have to read about the sport or activity too.

Before the days of printing out trail guides from the internet-which tend to be current-we relied on books. The diminutive Pocket Slam was easy to slip into a backpack and didn‘t add much weight.

In the photo we‘re attempting an early spring ascent of Torreys Peak. Risk of avalanche halted us so we built a snowman instead and then turned back to the car.

Another well-thumbed book from my Colorado climbing days. This was enjoyable for its pictures and a very general overview of a mountain range, a peak and their history.

After failing to be interested in, much less excel at, any competitive sports as a youth, I became obsessed with climbing 14ers during my last year of college. For the many years I lived in Colorado, I climbed throughout the Rockies: spring, summer, winter, and fall.

AmyG My daughter has climbed quite a few of these in CO. 3y
TiminCalifornia @AmyG Great feeling of accomplishment to do these and a good community of people on the trails. 3y

Kicking off the #physicalfitness motif with the tagged book. I‘d owned many books that diagrammed proper form for weightlifting. Most of them I let go over time because watching a YouTube clip was more instructive.

This one I kept. The illustrations, with the intricate detail of musculature, is uniquely informative. You can see what‘s going on under the skin and how all the muscles are layered and connected.

Lauram These photos being back all the sights and smells from gross anatomy. 3y
TiminCalifornia @Lauram Ha! I guess the sights and smells of a gym are an improvement! 3y

I‘ll be starting a new motif in January to showcase books I‘ve kept on fitness, sports & physical activity.

Different things have interested me over the years from trail hikes to triathlon, and I seem to collect books about whatever I‘m doing.

Physical fitness is interpreted broadly (books on essential oils might make an appearance). Feel free to join in and add to the motif collection!
