Raging that my library system charges $0.50 A SINGLE HOLD because it's straight up highway robbery but I'm trying to tell myself that fifty cents per comic is a lot cheaper than buying them for $17 a piece. I am taking deep breaths and I am not going to file a complaint about this even tho I would love to do nothing more than complain about charging this much for a hold. I am a happy buzzing bee. Bzzzzzzz. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝#imsocheap #itsnothealthy

jpmcwisemorgan I'm sorry! It's worth it though if it's something you want to read. 7y
Hooked_on_books Think of I as a donation to the library to keep it running and continuing to buy new books you want. 7y
MeganB Whoa! That's crazy, if only because it would add up so quickly!! My old library charged 25 cents and I was equally ragey. 7y

Vexingcircumstance Library here doesn't charge for holds (thank goodness cause I do a lot of holds - it's hard to browse some days with a two year old much less browse four branches of a library system) but the one in the town I lived in for the previous year and a half did and also charged rental fees for new releases. moranadatter This goes against pretty much everything I know about public libraries. 7y
queerbookreader @kmdartist it doesn't make sense idk and they sell special "hold cards" once in a while where you can get every couple holds free and it's so complicated why even bother 7y
moranadatter @lemonlime799 So library services are only for people who can afford them now? I thought we ditched that nonsense in the 19th Century. There was a long debate here about rental dvds - a separate collection of recent releases that people could pay to borrow instead of waiting for the regular collection copies. They were eventually allowed, but only because there were also copies available for free. (edited) 7y
queerbookreader @kmdartist It's annoying for sure. A hold fee is more expensive than an overdue fine? Like why should I have to pay that much to be able to check out a book I really want to read 7y
queerbookreader @kmdartist our overdue fines are 35 cents a day. Which is also absurd, but more justified than charging 50 cents for a single hold 7y
kspenmoll This idea of paying for holds must keep more of the public from reading. As @kmdartist points out. 📚 7y
