Stumbled upon the Denver Public Library sale yesterday, but showed restraint. Just these four pretties. The illustrations in The Kitchen Madonna are gorgeous!

I‘d mentioned this book to my mom at her wedding this summer, as I remembered it from one of her old readers digest condensed books and I‘d recently tracked down the volume it appeared in. She found copies of the unabridged book for us both and included mine in my Christmas box. She and I have a very complicated relationship, so having a good memory and something new to tie it to is a rarity I‘ll appreciate unreservedly.
This gorgeous book is perfect for anyone interested in the symbolism of Christian icons or the process involved in creating them.
Many years ago, I read The Kitchen Madonna in a volume of Reader‘s Digest Condensed Books. At the time I didn‘t even know what it MEANT to condense/abridge books. FF to my late 20s/early 30s, and I feel compelled to track this volume down. It isn‘t easy, and it doesn‘t happen quickly, but eventually I have it in my hands. I bookmark the story, but don‘t read it. I‘m afraid for the magic to go out of it. The book sits untouched for many more years.
My #Bookstock haul from today. I tried to rein it in... but you know how it goes. My Fitzgerald collection gained a few new members to the shelf today. Well worth getting up at 6am for the trip!
