pickThis is the second book in the Bosch series. I like Harry better in the later books. In those, his moral code is more fleshed out. In these earlier ones, he‘s pretty much a lone wolf cop who thinks he‘s the only one in the department with a sense of justice. I still like him and the stories — this one took a twist near the end that I hadn‘t remembered. Up next as our road trip book is the 3rd one, The Concrete Blonde.

Where the stories intersect, there are definitely some leads in common.10th Bosch in series.

pickI love this series - guaranteed page-turner for me. Bosch investigates a cold case and an apparent suicide. As always no one comes out looking totally clean and politics and other motives abound.
“Everybody matters or nobody matters”. My choice for February, more a tribute to the series (so far , about to start book 10) #12Booksof2022 I love Bosch and his persistence in solving a case . He is always painfully aware that bureaucracy,power, & fame conspire against finding justice for the little guy or anyone else for that matter. Honorable mention:Crossroads by Franzen, though I couldn‘t quite give it the February pick.

pickI like this one. The cases are interesting and at least one of the "bad guys" is complex and in some lights even sympathetic rather than being all bad. Another is irredeemably bad and whose punishment provides a welcome sense of things being set right in the world. Come to think of it, I wonder if that's why I feel compelled to keep reading these books? They provide a vindication that feels too complicated for me to root for in real life.
so-soI suppose it's probably a good sign that I am not as skilled as I used to be at guessing at the beginning of Connelly's novels who's going to end up dead by the end of the book. Maybe it's a sign of Connelly's evolution as an author. A new problem I have: when the characters mention previous cases, I can't always remember whether I've read about the cases in previous books.
