Darius and Twig: 2 teen boys in Harlem, one a writer, one a runner. Through their friendship and loyalty to each other, they strive to live their biggest dreams
Xiomara tells her story in poetic verse. Papi is present but absent, Twin is caught up in his own struggles, and Mami is trying to mold X through strict rules, heavy doses of religion, and threats of sending X away. Xiomara finds her words slowly but surely with the help of Aman, Caridad, Isabelle, Stephan, Chris, Father Sean, and Ms. Galiano.

A story of two young men living in Harlem. They have to navigate difficult people and situations in the streets, which alter them emotionally and conciously, and with each new circumstance, these two young men maintain a strong bond between good and bad times in their life. This book an interesting, and it allows you to see the realism of good friendships and the understanding and care for one's self and others.
"As Twig said, the shit in your life doesn't go away easy." (pg. 201)
I liked how Twig connected the reality of his and Darius' life situation to Darius' fictional story.
"Then I started thinking about my story again. Maybe the boy did have faith in the dolphins. Maybe he had just lost faith in everything else." (pg.125)
"Some people can't live a decent life. They got their heads messed up, and instead of changing their heads, they want to turn the world around so what's going on in their heads looks right to them. You can't mess with thinking like that." (pg.123)
