?Because I love to complain? Last night, mom pulls out two paperbacks we own: one published two years ago, one published in 2002. She goes "I think it's ridiculous that paperbacks cost $10 a piece at minimum now, when they only cost $4.99 a decade ago" and seriously??? What is with that?? Inflation hasn't been that severe in a decade and I KNOW that mass market paperback didn't cost anywhere near $10 to produce ? #bookishpetpeeve #complaintrain
Johanna414 Kindle prices seem to be going up too- I noticed a few books the other day where the kindle price was higher than the hardcover on amazon! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag You can't buy $10 paperbacks in Australia... 8y
queerbookreader @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Are they even more there omg. $10 is minimum now but I've seen them for $12-$15 and it's absurd tbh 8y

julesG Kindle prices and paperback prices have gone up here in Germany, too. I find it ridiculous to pay €12-15 for the paperback and maybe a Euro or two less for the eBook. Add fixed retail prices for books - no discounts on new books - no wonder I fly to the UK with an empty suitcase. 😉 8y
julesG That ⬆ was supposed to say "ridiculously overpriced" 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, oh to live within comfortable flying distance to the UK and Europe 😊 yep, I often buy from book depository because it's often much cheaper than book store prices but $16-20 is average here (and more again if you want a trade paperback) 8y
julesG @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I remember sending a large box of books to my friend in AUS since that was cheaper than buying them locally. Isn't that insane. Just imagine the carbon footprint of these books. 🙈 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG - it's a crazy old world 🤔 my book depository books come from the UK... more incentive to go to the library!! 8y
julesG @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Would love to go to the library, but they don't have a lot of English books and/or genres/authors I don't read. 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, that's annoying! My local library was a lifesaver in my teen years and now I work in one 😅 so I should really borrow more instead of buying (maybe I'll try a book ban for may?) 8y
jfalkens That's why I get 95% of my books used. I only get them new if I really want the book or so a series match. 8y
silentrequiem Plus there's now a new size that's not mass market paperback. They are taller and skinnier, and IMO harder to hold. But they are more expensive than the mass markets. Blargh. 8y
ReadingSusan @silentrequiem those are soooo hard to hold. I hate them. 7y
