Well-written, informative, upsetting, and inspiring. A wonderful memoir.

There‘s a new book shop / wine bar coming to my Nashville suburb, and I‘m BEYOND excited! While their space is being built, the owner is out and about doing pop-ups. This was today at our farmers market! #TheGildedSpine #bookhaul #shoplocal
#OffMyShelf “Historical”
Not for the easily offended. Flashman is a terrible, amoral person. He‘s just incredibly lucky. Expelled from Rugby, he joins the army and ends up in Afghanistan, right in time for the first Anglo-Afghan war. I may continue with the series since Zelig-like, he is always at an interesting historical moment. The author is obviously a historian at heart. And I don‘t think the author endorses Flashman‘s behavior. Far from it.

I‘m with Flashman on the 1842 retreat from Kabul of the British Army. He is really is a terrible person but one does get a good feel for the historical situation reading this book.

“El pan de la guerra“ cuenta la historia de parvana, una niña afgana de 11 años que vive en kabul bajo el régimen talibán. Su padre sin un trabajo. Parvana decide disfrazarse de niño para poder trabajar.
En general el libro me gustó, trata temas muy complejos pero muy interesantes como la fuerza y la resiliencia de las mujeres
Recomiendo este libro para jóvenes pues destaca la importancia de la paz y los derechos humanos.
Every single title that I've read by Nadia Hashimi is 5 star. They make me ponder long after the last page about the world around me and the privileges I forget to notice every day. I complain about gender equality while others just don't want to be considered property or be the 3rd, 4th, or 5th wife whose sole purpose is to bear male children. Let us learn from one another, let us never forget that it could and is worse for so many others.
#CoverStories Day 31: #Prison - Zeba was detained (but more like imprisoned) for the murder of her husband, and awaiting a conviction. All the other incarcerated women committed the crime of fighting back against abusive husbands or family members or accused of having sex outside of marriage – called zina or crimes of immorality – even just a mere suspicion is enough to dishonor a woman and her family.
