EadieB This is book 19 in the Cork O'Connor series. I have read all the other books and have loved them too. The characters feel so real and the plot is an excellent story to keep the pages turning until the very end. I am now looking forward to the next installment. I am thankful to NetGalley and Atria Books for a copy for an honest review. (edited) 2y

This book is a prequel to the Cork O‘Connor series and takes place in 1963 and Cork is twelve-years-old. Cork‘s father, Liam O‘Connor, is Aurora Minnesota's sheriff and Cork helps his father solve a few murders. I have read and enjoyed Krueger's writing which is excellent throughout the whole series.

One of my favourite books of 2020. It was a wonderful, emotional rollercoaster of an escape from the madness that has been this year. It‘s well worth the read. I‘ve seen this book compared to Huckleberry Finn, but this is so much better than that. The characters are so loveable. They all have a purpose, warm hearts, and genuine love for each other.

GingerAntics @TrishB the vindictiveness of the black witch was shocking. How deep it ran and the fact she openly admitted to enjoying watching Odie suffer. I can‘t stop thinking about that ending and the big twist (it‘s really multiple little twists isn‘t it?) at the end. (edited) 4y

The ending was so perfect. I did not see the twist at the end, but it was somehow fitting. It explained Odie a bit. I‘m so glad I finally read this book. It‘s one of my favourites from this year.

Read this in 2015.

This series is so good that I just want to keep devouring these books. I felt so sorry for Cork and his family when Jo went missing. All I know is that I have to start reading the next book very soon in order to see what's going to happen next. No spoilers from me - you must pick up these books and read them for yourself. You will not be disappointed!
