Vintage phoebe and marigold. Loved it. Definitely plan to burn through the ones I haven‘t read.

April‘s selection for my kids‘ fantasy book club at the library. It was my favorite when I was little, so I was eager to see how it would be received by today‘s generation, 30 years later. It dawned a gorgeous, sunny day (after a month full of rain), so I had only one attendee. Lucky for me, Maeve is my (secret) favorite! She LOVED the book, which was validating. If I‘m being honest, much of my taste today can be traced back exactly this far.👇🏻
3 ⭐ First this book is too long. And there are so many ideas in here that it seems like a mishmash. There‘s the idea of being afraid, the idea of feeling left out, the idea of not fitting in. Towards the end the minotaur says they learned that black is just where all the colors meet seems to come from nowhere and belong to a different book. It‘s just altogether weird. I like the illustrations.

I liked the idea of the book but it was overall really slow in the plot. Also the ending was really confusing.

Can‘t find the second bookstore of the day in the database (Stranger than Fiction in Ardmore, OK), so I‘ll tag one of my purchases! I was excited to pick up several by Josephine Tey as well.
This was a good fairy tale, and I enjoyed reading it, but never felt like I fully connected with it. Like, the writing was really good (Beagle can be very poetic at times but very humorous at other moments), but I never quite connected with the characters. Still a pick! Still a fun read! I just think it‘s a book I would‘ve enjoyed more when I was younger.
Second #AuldLangSpine book from @BookmarkTavern complete!
Dentist appointment done and killing time until my haircut. Another #AuldLangSpine title, a caramel brûlée latte, and a tomato mozzarella sandwich.
I really liked this graphic novel in the lessons that it teaches children. It is a cute way of talking about friendships and how to bring out the best in each other. I would use this as a class read aloud and have students work in random partners, talk about the things that they like about each other and what they are good at, what they admire about each other. I also like the lesson it teaches about disagreements and how to handle them.
