BarkingMadRead Your breakfast looks amazing! 8mo
mcctrish This looks like the best version of LCL imo 8mo
Cuilin I just watched the movie, Connie and Mellors are so much more palatable, even likable on screen then on paper. Truly made for a modern audience. 8mo

IndoorDame @Cuilin I‘m leaving forward to watching it when I finish the book! 8mo
IndoorDame @BarkingMadRead I almost never bring breakfast in, but it was such a delicious treat! 8mo
IndoorDame @mcctrish if you mean the edition, this is my 3rd word cloud and I‘m really loving them! Plus I scored this one used for 3$ 8mo
mcctrish Truthfully @IndoorDame I meant paired with this delicious breakfast ( I need motivation to read this 🤣🤣) but that‘s a great deal 8mo
IndoorDame @mcctrish mmm, that makes more sense 😂😂😂 and it was excellent motivation. I highly recommend 😆 8mo

#SUNDAYBUDDYREAD

My thoughts reading this week

“RUN CONNIE RUN get out of there and don‘t look back ..”

Your thoughts ? What do you think women reading this in the time it was written thought?

I‘m sure I missed things what did you get from this weeks reading ? The classism sexism is a wow… but not unusual and yikes still today.

Sargar114 This was the section where I thought “oh this is what the fuss is all about.” Haha. While I never agree with banning a book, I can see why the sex scenes can be distracting from the many larger topics being discussed especially for a teenage mind. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I think people reading the sex parts miss the entire point of the book but yes NOW we see the reason for the banning- although I don‘t agree with banning either. 8mo
AmyG I can see why people were shocked. 8mo

IndoorDame I‘m getting a lot more from this than my first read, though it‘s also making me way angrier. I would run if I were her. Even in the 20s. 8mo
Sargar114 @IndoorDame I do agree she needs to get out of it all together. 8mo
vlwelser Definitely run Connie run. That's a perfect conclusion. If only she does it.... 8mo
mcctrish Banning for the wrong reason imo! 🤣🤣 #runconnierun 8mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I want a T-shirt RUN CONNIE RUN 👀😅🤣 8mo
OriginalCyn620 I agree! I think Connie needs to get away and just clear her head! 8mo
mcctrish @TheBookHippie I‘d buy it and wear it 8mo
batsy Run, Connie, run would be my advice, too. There is a sense of her being trapped and she is definitely searching for something "bigger" than her current life. 8mo
vonnie862 I'm actually surprised how "graphic" the book is for its time. 8mo
vonnie862 Though divorce was a thing in the UK during this time, not many people did it. Connie wants to run but at the same time she's stuck, especially with the lifestyle she's used to. If she runs away with Mellors, I feel that she will quickly get bored and come to resent him as well. 8mo
mrp27 I think it was definitely shocking for the time. For the sex of course but also the frank talking about it. I wonder if people shocked back then about the social/class commentary. I want to put in a pre order for the run Connie shirt. 8mo
julieclair I agree that readers back in the 20s/30s may have been so distracted by the sex that they missed the other issues being portrayed in the book. But I also hope that the book made women of the time think candidly about their own sex lives and attitudes towards sex. 8mo
DebinHawaii I am with you on the Run, Connie, Run tee-shirt !🏃🏻‍♀️😂 I can see why I never made it through this one decades ago. While I appreciate how shocking & ahead of it‘s time it was/is, it just isn‘t doing it for me.😵‍💫 8mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 team shirts 🤣 It‘s definitely forward thinking on many subjects but then so backward in others… it‘d be a great physcology sociology class discussion! 8mo
mollyrotondo Definitely want the Run, Connie, Run tshirt 😂 I think she needs to go to Venice and forget all about Clifford and Mellors. I don‘t want to see her runaway with Mellors because she will just feel stuck in a different way. I‘m so glad we read this because it‘s so much more than a “sex book”. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I know that history is full of misogyny, class struggles, and pearl clutching, so I came for the smut. I'm not impressed. I feel like continuing an affair should bring you some joy, as juxtaposition to the guilt and/or shame. There's none of that nuance here. Once they're together, there's no passion. No love. No desire. Maybe it's the way it's written, but I just don't find anything likeable. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I do think whether it's the 1920s or 2020s, the word c**t makes many people bristle, and that's why it's one of my favorite words. 😁 8mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I agree! Where in the world is the PASSION?! 8mo
