Pickpick

Still wrapping up December reviews. This was a collection of old fashioned short stories. Each one was uplifting and celebrated a time when it was most exciting to go to a “taffy pull”! Just the kind of warmth that I needed. #blameitonlitsy #kindredspiritschristmas

BarbaraJean Thank you for joining the buddy read! This was such a great Christmas comfort read. ☺️ 1y
DivineDiana @BarbaraJean It really was! Happy New Year! ❤️ 1y

I finished reading these stories for the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead.
#KindredSpiritsChristmas @BarbaraJean

They were very enjoyable. The themes were somewhat repetitive, but who doesn't like stories about families reconciling and people helping the less fortunate at this time of the year?

kwmg40 Here in Ontario, we're being hit hard with a winter storm. My own family members are all safe and cozy and only suffered a few hours' power outage. However, I felt for the train passengers who were stranded on a train with no food or water for 18 hours. I wished there had been an Aunt Cyrilla with a big Christmas basket to give them some joy! 1y
DieAReader 🥶❄️🎄🥳Great job! Stay warm🔥 1y
Andrew65 Well done 🎄🎄🎄 Stay tucked in reading at home. Seen pictures on the Internet, looks absolutely awful. 🥶🥶🥶 1y

BarbaraJean Thanks for joining in the buddy read! I feel for those train passengers, too—what a parallel to Aunt Cyrilla! And stranded passengers strikes a chord for me this year. I‘m in Southern California, so no winter snow for us, but my dad flew to Indiana with my niece & her husband to spend Christmas with my sister‘s family, and they got stuck at the Cincinnati airport overnight because the roads were closed between there and my sister‘s house. 🥶 1y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 1y
kwmg40 @DieAReader @Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks for the encouragement! Things are much better now, weather-wise. I hope that's also the case for those in other stricken areas.

kwmg40 @BarbaraJean Sorry to hear that your family was also affected from the storm. The son of a good friend of mine missed coming home for Christmas because the trains were cancelled, but at least he didn't get caught on one of the ones that were stuck for almost a full day. 1y

Surely it can‘t be the same Josie Pye!

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - “Ida‘s New Year Cake” - 12/17/22

I have to say, a fruitcake would not be such an attraction for me as to invite a whole boardinghouse over to make merry, but this story did make it sound enticing. And again, such a sweet gesture of kindness at the holidays… with a reminder to keep that kindness throughout the year. 💜
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

LeahBergen Surely there is only one Josie Pye. 😉 1y
AnneCecilie I noticed that too. It must be Anne‘s friend. 1y
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen Even one is really too many. 😏 1y

quietjenn @rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen even a fictional world can't take more than one. 1y
AnnR I thought this was a well rounded story but I agree with all the comments about the fruitcake. Not remotely in the realm of any holiday food I'd look forward to eating. 1y
BarbaraJean @rubyslippersreads @quietjenn 😂😂Agreed!! @LeahBergen @AnneCecilie Surely it can‘t be the same Josie, because the Josie we know would certainly never stoop to taking a clerk job in a bookstore! 1y

I finished the L.M. Montgomery holiday stories today. Along with several at Christmas, there was a Thanksgiving story and a few set at the New Year. Most were in this collection along with a few more. I read almost all of them in print and listened to all of this collection on audio as well. Many express the same themes, but I enjoyed each of them in their own way.

BarbaraJean Thanks for joining in! These were such cozy reads for this time of year! 1y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - “Uncle Richard‘s New Year‘s Dinner” - 12/16/22

I like Prissy Baker‘s New Year‘s plans! I love that she looks regretfully back at her book as she leaves the house… I felt that moment. 😁 And here we have another reconciliation story!
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

TheAromaofBooks I really liked this one, Prissy's willingness to give up a quiet, relaxing day (seriously a sacrifice) to go do something nice for someone who hasn't been kind to her. LMM talks a lot about people being to stubborn to admit they're in the wrong! 1y
AnneCecilie I guess every Litten knows what kind of sacrifice she is making. 1y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - “The Josephs‘ Christmas” - 12/15/22

Late post tonight—a busy week & I‘m getting stressed about all the Christmas things. 😩 This story was a lovely close to the day, once I could slow down & enjoy it. I especially loved this little note at the end, that even with all the wonderful gifts they could have desired—the little Josephs still appreciated the homemade gifts they‘d made for each other. 💜 #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

TheAromaofBooks Sorry you are feeling stressed!! Thank you for still taking the time to post for us every day. ❤ 1y
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks Aw… thank you! Today feels a little bit better—I crossed a few more things off my list and it helped that I had a half day off work following our holiday luncheon! 1y

I‘ve had a busy week at school, but I‘ve been continuing to enjoy these stories each day. Somewhere along the way I read a few in a different order and then revisited a few on audio again today. I think I just have the New Year‘s ones left, so this seemed a perfect time to share this quote about the spirit of Christmas. Wishing all of you a wonderful holiday season!

Suet624 Best wishes to you for a lovely holiday. 1y
Daisey @Suet624 Thank you! 🎄 1y
BarbaraJean That is such a lovely quote—I think that will end up being my favorite story from this buddy read! Hope you have a wonderful holiday, too. 🤗🎄 1y
Daisey @BarbaraJean Thank you! I‘ve loved several of these and don‘t even know that I could pick a favorite. 1y
