Instead, catching a glimpse of himself in the still waters of the lazy creek, he saw that the moonlight color of his wings had changed to the black of the Darkness he had allowed entrance into Nyx‘s Otherworld.
Filled with insatiable rage, Kalona roared his anger to the night‘s sky and lost himself completely.

Bittersweet coming-of-age story about #twins growing up on an island in the Chesapeake Bay. Picture is of a different bay in Maryland but gives a good idea of the landscape. #newyearnewbooks
My granddaughter gave this book to her brother who loooves Narwhal and Jelly books, so I had to read it.

#HumbleHarvest Day 17: Not really #Corn but Uni #Corn. Things were going just fine and dandy for Goat until Unicorn moved in. Goat thought he was pretty special with his bicycle, nearly-perfect marshmallow squares, his signature dance moves. Then Unicorn with his shimmering flight, his storm of cupcakes, and professional prancing moves continually steal Goat‘s spotlight, albeit without really intending to. I haven‘t seen my best friend from high school in almost a year and she was home this weekend so we grabbed lunch…. So many laughs!
Only a third of the way through this book and pretty sure I've got it all figured out. And if I do, I'm thoroughly disturbed and disgusted... I've got this on sale from Audible and there's still 8 hours left but I'm in chapter 33 and I think there must be a twist I'm missing where this whole thing was a set up for revenge or at least that's what I'm praying for.. that's the only thing I can stomach at this point.
When I was in college, my 20-year-old cousin was murdered by two friends who blamed her for her ex-boyfriend's suicide. The trial was bizarre, but the thing that struck me the most was how committed the murderers had to be to end my cousin's life, and how young they all were (my age and younger). This book brought back a lot of those memories, and maybe gave me a better sense of how passions can carry us away, especially when we're young.
#Pop23 ~a book you read more than 10 years ago. I read this in 6th grade, living in Massachusetts at the time. Revisiting it in my adulthood as a Maryland resident, the eastern shore life is much more prominent. It made me sad as these islands are sinking and becoming inhabitable but it was fun to revisit this coming of age story.
