The Cocktail Waitress | James M. Cain

Pickpick

I grabbed this #audiobook when it was on sale a couple of weeks ago. It‘s the lost final novel of James M. Cain and I really enjoyed it. I love the noirish vibe. I can‘t really put my finger on why exactly I liked this so much. The narrator was good but not great. I just got very wrapped up in Joan‘s very messy life and was rooting for her all the way. 4⭐️

Larkken I read double indemnity by Cain earlier this year and liked it. I‘ll have to try this one! 2y
rabbitprincess OMG super pulpy cover 😂 2y
JenlovesJT47 @Larkken that‘s on my TBR, might listen to the audiobook soon. Have you seen the movie? I started the audiobook of Mildred Pierce yesterday and have already listened to 5 hours of it, it‘s very good! The miniseries is great as well and a very faithful adaptation. 2y
JenlovesJT47 @rabbitprincess yes! 😆 I love it. I admit the cover convinced me to buy it lol. 2y

I read this book in 2018 and enjoyed it very much! If you never read Cain before you need to now. He also wrote The Postman Always Rings Twice and many other good books.

Eggs You know a lot about authors 👏🏻👏🏻 4y

Published 1934. A young vagrant and the sexy bored wife of a restaurant owner plan to murder her husband. Excellent characters, plot and writing. Cain‘s first book was an instant success and made into a movie. I watched the movie for a #booktomovie challenge. #CenturyofMysteryChallenge too!
Recommended for mystery lovers.
