Last night on my mini break I really regretted not bringing my book. Feels like I‘m in a book binge again. 😅

Game of Thrones | George R R Martin

Can someone who is a George R R Martin fan tell me what all books are in the series ? Game of Thrones?

Is that the name of the series or has this author written another series ? The Hubster is looking for something new. I am clueless about these books.

And how many books are in the series and how many are yet to come ? Are the ones pictured all in the complete set ?

Thank you

wanderinglynn The book series is called A Song of Ice and Fire & begins with the first volume entitled, A Game of Thrones (which is the title the TV adaptation used). Martin has published 5 out of a planned 7 volumes. Also, 3 prequel novellas are currently available & several more are planned as well as a series of novella-length excerpts from the main Ice and Fire novels 4d
ljuliel @wanderinglynn Would you recommend starting with the prequels or the first big book for someone new to them ? (edited) 4d
mdm139 They are actually called the Song of Ice and Fire series, but since the show came out they are more commonly called the Game of Thrones series. The ones shown are the only ones in the series. Martin is working on another book but he is notorious for taking several years to write them. To be fair they are very detailed and wonderful. 4d

KathyWheeler The name of the series is A Song of Ice and Fire. Those books in the picture are the only books that are part of the series. The are 5 — the 6th one has allegedly been coming out for years. The titles are Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, Storm of Swords, A Feast of Crows, and A Dance With Dragons. He does have other books but they aren‘t part of the series. I liked them (except 4) — they are surprisingly quick reads. 4d
mdm139 There are a few prequel books available as well 4d
ljuliel Thank you @wanderinglynn @mdm139 @KathyWheeler . Do they take place on Earth or in space or a fantasy land like Lord of the Rings ? (edited) 4d
wanderinglynn No, you do not need to start with the prequels. 4d
ljuliel And would someone like Lord of the Rings if they like this series ? I‘m honestly a blank when it comes to fantasy / sci-fi 4d
wanderinglynn On the fictional continents Westeros and Essos. They‘re classified as fantasy, like Lord of the Rings, but with dragons. And yes, someone who likes LOTR would most likely enjoy Song of Ice & Fire and visa-versa. (edited) 4d
mdm139 I agree with @wanderinglynn 4d
ljuliel Thanks , guys, you‘ve been a big help. ✨✨✨ 4d
KathyWheeler I agree with @wanderinglynn. Someone who likes The Lord of the Rings will probably also like this. I like both. 4d
ljuliel Thank you @KathyWheeler . I know nothing about this category of book, but the husband has become a huge audiobook fan in the past couple of years. He‘s currently on a Stephen King kick, but I know he‘ll run out of them, and trying to think of other types of books he‘d like. He loved the movie Braveheart. I have no idea if it‘d compare to these type of books or not, but I thought they might. Just guessing. 4d
vivastory He has 2 separate prequels to the Song of Ice & Fire series which is what you have posted. I definitely recommend the set you posted, even though it's incomplete. One of the prequels, which stands on its own but he might add onto at some point in the future is collected in 4d
vivastory The upcoming HBO series, House of Dragons, is going to be based on his other prequel to the events of Song of Ice and Fire. Martin has called it his Silmarillion. There's one volume out now & one more planned volume 4d
ljuliel Thank you @vivastory. I‘ll make sure to tell him about what you mentioned. I appreciate the help. 4d
KathyWheeler @ljuliel Is he listening to King‘s The Dark Tower series? That‘s excellent. 4d
ljuliel @KathyWheeler He has yet to get to those. He‘s currently halfway through The Institute. He‘s skipping around, so not going in order of publication. I never thought I‘d see the day he‘d enjoy books so much ! He has quite a long drive to work, so he listens on the way , on his lunch break and on his way home. His coworkers have also started reading King, so they sorta have a mini- book group at work. He‘s quite enthusiastic with it ! 4d
Andrew65 @wanderinglynn I‘d agree. @ljuliel I‘d also recommend the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Great fantasy. 3d
ljuliel Thanks for the suggestion @Andrew65 I‘ll make sure to pass them along to him. These should keep him occupied 😊 3d
wanderinglynn @Andrew65 YES! ❤️❤️ Love Rothfuss! So much more than either Tolkien or Martin. 👍🏻👍🏻 3d
Andrew65 @wanderinglynn Me too, and can‘t wait for August and the new book. 3d

Ugh Tyrion come on... No wonder the north prefers to have it's own king. They're the only people who understand what the north is really like and what they have to protect King's Landing from (if the Watch fails).

Pickpick

When I bought this audiobook I was expecting a story translated into old fashioned and heavy English, dense with complicated imagery and challenging to the ear. How wrong I was! This translation by Emily Wilson is a joy to listen to and sounds so modern considering the age of the original poem. I‘m not especially a Greek mythology lover but I really enjoyed the adventure and scale of this story. A very pleasant surprise! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cathythoughts Nice review! Sounds good 6d

Does anyone else just completely fall asleep during the Jon Snow chapters? I'm sorry, but I'm only here for Renly, Sansa, and Tyrion right now. I never thought that Jon was particularly interesting.

Trying really hard to get back into the swing of reading. I haven‘t had much energy lately and so I‘ve been pretty much just moping around.

ljuliel Your ring is beautiful ! 1w
Ehina @ljuliel thank you! I designed it myself 🥰 1w
ljuliel What color is the stone ? I can‘t really tell from that position. 1w
Ehina @ljuliel it‘s a black diamond. Of course the light is hitting it square on the main facet in the picture. 1w
ljuliel Just beautiful. 💍 You can say you have a one of a kind ring since you designed it yourself. 😊 1w
